Where does this money come from? Other federations make ten fold what ours does, and the gap in revenue between MLS and bundesliga, premier league, etc is enormous, and like you said they bankroll the women’s game there. How the hell are we supposed to be on an equal footing in terms of money supporting the women’s game?

Money isn't the only issue. It's the organization. Women's soccer in the US would fare far better if it were paired with the MLS, as that could allow travel costs to be subsidized, and sponsorship arrangements to include the women's team. As of now, the NWSL is subsidized by the federations of Canada, Mexico, and the US, which seems like an inefficient system. I would love it, in fact, if MLS teams started women's teams to compete against the NWSL, as I think the key is that we need at least 15-20 women's professional teams, to compete with the numbers we are seeing from England and France specifically.
Essentially what I'm saying is that we need the women's game to piggyback off the established men's game, just as they did in Europe, to maximize resources.

From what I can understand, Chelsea/Barca/Lyon and the rest all subsidize their women’s teams directly while we have the federations do it. So there is more parity, far fewer super teams and lower pay for all but the USWNT players.
European management will just take financial losses in a dick measuring contest or for tax write-offs. More than anything, it compares to the WNBA and Turkey/Russia/China than anything else.
However it is completely true that there has been handwringing about how Europe is catching up to the US for a decade now and the articles could literally be copied and pasted into today’s world.
