Hard to win an award when you only play the last 15 mins of every game.

Someone give this man a cake pronto!

Yeah, I heard the award came with a pretty sweet ice-cream cake. That's the real reason he is upset.

Yaya clearly didn't take Besic's advice

Yaya Toure is the best sub in the English Premier League.

In one sense, he's right in that his performance in the CAF maybe should have been considered more, as his club performance seemed to go wayward after that. That's what he is referring to when he talks about favoring what's abroad more than the continent. The way the CAFCON's is structured, it makes it very difficult to have a great club season and a great performance at the tournament.

It makes more sense in that context... but, IMO it seems like that would be covered in whatever award is given out to the top player in the tournament, at that time..

Yeah, AFCON is a clusterf@#$ of a tournament. I watched most of it. I wouldn't even say that Yaya's performance in that was all that spectacular. Max Gradel, both goalkeepers and Gervinho (of all people) were far more impressive for Côte D'Ivoire.
Aubameyang had the best club season of any African striker in Europe since probably mid-to-late 2000s Samuel Eto'o.

I would venture to say that Toure probably feels the fact that he captained the team that won the CAF should be enough to ignore any poor individual performance.

Assuming Toure thinks PEB should have led Gabon to something in the AFCON, like he did with the Ivory Coast.
I have no qualms. PEB is a badass.

I get what he's saying....I don't agree with it but I get where he's coming from. The award is AFRICAN footballer of the year. He has been the face of Ivory Coast, and arguably African players (with Drogba), for a few years now. He plays for a big club. He won AFCON. He succeeded for club AND country in 2015. Fair or not, he was a part of successful teams.
Aubameyang is deserving for sure, but I get Toure's point.
That being said, he isn't helping his pouty image at all.
