Sissoko was huge last season. He can play CDM but is more of a box-to-box CM in my eyes. Really good runner with solid recovering/cover ability.

As good as he was, we really started going to shite in the late part of last season when Winks was out injured because we missed his press resistance, passing, and ball control. Sissoko can absolutely boss around weaker midfields by winning the ball, dribbling past them, and wearing them out, but when you face a team with an organized press like Liverpool or City it mitigates those traits to a large extent.

Another factor is that Sissoko isn’t getting any younger (will be 30 next week), and I tend to question if he can sustain his form from last season playing that much. On the other hand Winks is 23 and has higher ceiling as a professional.

I’m imagining a lineup of

Lloris
KWP - alderweireld - vertonghen - Rose
Winks ndombele
Moura Eriksen lamela
Kane

I’m wondering if lo celso has a chance to come on in the second half. I imagine the game will determine that, but I wouldn’t think so. frickin jacked the new season is here.

If anything this game showed how much we are going to miss Eriksen.

Good win. COYS

Eriksen brought some life into the match. His free kick was beautiful. Heaton made a good save on that one.

Hate to see Eriksen leave if that’s what ends up happening

Luckily Lo Celso will be seeing some time shortly and I think a midfield of Lo Celso/Winks/Ndombele is more than capable

We’re not making the top 4 without Eriksen. We will drop too many points against the mid and bottom table teams parking the bus without his creativity.

Yep, losing Eriksen scares me tbh.

Happy to see them fight back late for the win. I thought KWP WAS solid today, won quite a few corners, and didn’t have any obvious defensive mistakes. That said it will be interesting to see how he holds up against the top sides where we are under a lot of pressure. Villa never really put us under pressure.

I already love ndombele. He’s going to be great. He’s so much fun to watch too. He had a back heel that sprung a break and I almost jizzed. He also should have had an assist in the first half if Kane had put away that header he usually sends home.

I was hoping to see more from lamela and moura creatively, so that was a bit of a disappointment. Especially with how lamela has looked in preseason. But his work rate forced that late goal.

Defense still has me really concerned, but ultimately it was nice to come away with 3 points. Away at city next weekend has me really concerned. They looked great today. They operate so much quicker than everyone else with their passing, and decision making. I was also reminded of how much I wished we still had walker.

Poch said something about having a lot of good players and made it sound like no ones place is permanent. If he doesn’t start against City next week then I would be a little more concerned. Thought Sanchez played well though.

KWP against city makes me very nervous lol.

Ndombele is gonna be great can’t wait to watch him get better and better as he adjusts to the PL speed of play

Def don’t deserve points for that shite park the bus strategy at the end but wow we got a point at the Ethiad.

Butt clenched the whole second half.

That high press against us was brutal.

That was a brutal game to watch. Man City is so damn good going forward. Felt like Sterling got the ball in space and drove at the box the entire game. VAR no goal was a lucky break, but I'll take a point at the Ethiad any way we can get it.

This. I expected to lose this match by 2-3 goals. Beyond thrilled to come away with a point.

City are so much better than every team it’s ridiculous. Going in to this year I picked City to finish top of the league again, but was really close to picking Liverpool. Now Im not so sure Liverpool can even challenge them, barring major injuries to city. It’s obviously still early, but their depth and quality is stupid.

Well, there goes the Undrawables Season.

Great to get a point on the road though. Had a bad feeling about this match without Son on the pitch.
