Is it that this is the new normal?

It doesn't seem to be when you look around the country and continent. Chelsea, City, and United are pushing in on the billion dollar mark in the last few windows. Inter just brought Christian Eriksen and Alexis Sanchez off the bench in a final. I understand we aren't backed by an oil baron, I'd just like our spending habits to be a little further away from Tottenham's. We've got funds from a champions league trophy and new kit deal and it doesn't seem like we're very intent on using it to strengthen our starting 11. It's bothersome when you see your rivals getting better. We're back on our perch, it would be nice to stay a while.

I think if it came down to it and we were in a situation where we had to play our currently non existent 4th CB, that guy is probably Fabinho, which removes a key cog from our midfield. All the more reason to sign Thiago

My thoughts as well. Forget Fabs can fill in at CB in an emergency.

By all reports, it seems we are looking at CBs... I only see it as an issue, once the window shuts.. We may be looking to offload first to see what we can spend on incomings..

If we only sign Tsimikas, then I would be firmly in your camp rubble... I still think we could compete for silverware, but would be dangerously thin and in jeopardy of a few teams closing the gap on us quickly..

we've collected a pile of money over the last two years and it doesn't seem like it's being reinvested into the squad
We’re building a new practice facility and have drastically increased our wage bill. That’s money spent to try to help keep talent in the short term and to try and help develop talent long term as opposed to just buying constantly, so while it’s not investing in buying players, I’d say that’s still considered investing into the squad

Fair point on being further away from Tottenham, but the owners are still businessmen running the club as a business as opposed to a shiny new toy and can’t keep up with spending like Chelsea and City. I think they’re bracing for the losses that COVID is bringing, and while the kit deal sounds great in theory, it’s based on sales (as far as I know) and not immediate money up front so it will probably take a little while for us to truly reap the benefits of how much the deal is actually worth

Yeah, we'll never have a window like Chelsea is having IMO...

I dont think Klopp likes to build that way either... That said, we need to fill some holes and I hope we can this window...

We have to get another CB sooner rather than later. If our bosses seem to think we can call the Bayern bluff for now and scoop Thiago up on the really cheap than Ill believe them. But if we somehow lose Thiago than I would consider that a huge mistake. And we need to figure out Gini as soon as possible.

Chelsea had the highest net profit in the world the last two windows. Over €200 million. Werner/Havertz/Chilwell essentially push us back to 0 for the last couple years. We wouldn't be going crazy like this otherwise.

I'm not criticizing you, I just don't think you'd ever see us have a window like your current one.. we should have money too.. winning the UCL and EPL and basically spending £0 last summer, £7.25mm in Jan. for Taki and £12mm for Tsimikas so far (a wash with Lovren goin out for the much).

Quite honestly, I hope we don't need to have that kind of window anytime soon.. If these players are all hits, you shouldn't have to either..

edit: stupid COVID... I def think Timo would have been a red if not for this..

Are we really that low on Tsimikas? Like all we lost was Lovren... I get the injury concerns, but you're going to be hard pressed to find a guy of sufficient quality that's gonna be willing to be on a roster as a 5th CB

I haven't read anything on him that suggests he can play CB... I have read that we've been linked with Kristoffer Ajer at Celtic

Someone mentioned there being a lack of cover if Virgil gets hurt. Please, do tell. Who would be the cover for him getting hurt? Doesn’t matter who our 4 CB is if Virgil goes down. For the last two years we’ve managed to keep one of Gomez and matip healthy with the rare occasion of needing lovren. Gomez got hurt playing right back when he was the 4th cb, that won’t happen again.

Liverpool seem to be investing in youth so as not to need to spend big often.

That'd be a good place for him. Should get quality minutes there

Would be a good chance for him to work on the things he’s not as good at either - defending and hold up/link up play

Barca can't afford Mane or anyone else in our starting XI besides Gini for that matter
