Love his hunger and attitude. Kid seems to be a leader, and his effort/production of late backs that up.

I hope to see him in the squad.

If we don’t at least bring in Thiago I’ll have to start questioning if our transfer strategy has shifted from only buying good players that fit to only buying cheap players. Thiago Silva on a free to Chelsea when we just lost a CB and have two more that are constantly injured is pretty frustrating.

Yeah, need to bring in Thiago. We also really need another CB and a Mane backup. Need a backup striker with pace.

Thiago isn’t on a free. Bayern want 30 M.

Last summer everyone bitched that we couldn’t win the league without reinforcements.

I want Thiago and others but I’m going to trust the staff on these decisions because they’ve earned it.

I also think we have an advantage over other teams trying to bed entire squads during a shortened preseason and what’s going to be a crazy fixture list.

I'm well aware. Thiago Silva that just started in the champions league final at CB was free though and he'll be playing in London this year.

I brought Silva up earlier this summer... as an option for a stop gap signing, while the young CBs get experience..

But you have to consider the circumstances... He may want to go to a place where he starts (sorry, he isn't getting in over Joe - Chelsea offers a better shot at that), wages, length of contract..

But not signing a guy that will be 36 next month, is hardly alarm bells for our transfer policy..

Let me know when you have years of experience coaching/scouting/recruiting at the top level and have won a European Cup, Premier League and the Club World Cup.

Otherwise, there is no reason to doubt the management that is in place right now.

Also, Gomez and Robbo were both "cheap" players, and both are pretty fricking good

Brewster bailed us out with a 2nd half brace this morning against Salzburg..

Match was pretty intense and RB was pressing out of the gate... We looked a little off the first 20 mins or so, but then started to create chances.. of course, everyone was pulled for the 2nd half..

Soo can we not loan out Brewster this year and let him be part of the front line rotation? I think I'd be okay with that tbh

Come on. What a ridiculous premise to suggest that fans can't question anything.

Continuing to bargain hunt in the transfer market is playing with fire, IMO. We've got several players/positions without a very good backup right now and are now going into our third consecutive window without strengthening the starting 11 while the rest of the big 6 does exactly that. You can only lead a race going 150 mph for so long when those behind you are going 180 mph. Everything came together over the last 12 months and we managed to stay remarkably fit at those key positions. An extended period of time without Firmino, Mane, Salah, or God forbid Virgil and any ideas of holding the title should be out the window.

Robbo is fantastic. I'd feel much better if a guy like Gomez was first off the bench on the back line because he has trouble staying fit and frankly isn't the most consistent player.

I don't expect a Becker/Virgil/Ox/Naby every window, City are the only team in the world that really do that, but we've collected a pile of money over the last two years and it doesn't seem like it's being reinvested into the squad. We're only "splashing" when we make a huge sale. It would be very disappointing to NOT sign a player like Thiago with obvious quality when he's costing around 30 million and is better than any of our current midfielders at picking a forward pass.

Did I say that you could never question anything? But man, you're acting like the world is burning down when we just won the damn league by 18 points and it's probably only that close because of truly once in a lifetime circumstances.

All I was saying is that we literally have zero reason to doubt the people who actually make these decisions given the last several years.

My bad, never thought about him and didn’t really consider him an option.

No, but a couple depth signings wouldn’t hurt especially at CB. If Gomez goes down, we have Matip...who is great but made of glass. If Matip goes down we have ???. Same for VVD. We’ve been spoiled by his health, but man we’re in a bind defensively if he is ever out for more than a week or two. I was glad to offload Lovren, but think we need another Lovren type player. Not sure our youth CB’s are near good enough yet.

ETA: perfect timing...see post above mine. Reading it was a head injury and he’s fine.

Go get Suarez.

Dude can still bang in goals. Looked at his record for Barca since 2014 and its absurd how many goals he's scored for them.

3rd all time for them in 6 seasons is just stupid productive.

We have the greek we just signed like 3 weeks ago... But real talk, how many teams in the world could survive if they lost both CB2 and CB3?

Plus the topic at hand was signing Thiago for 30M

Is it outside the realm that they feel they replaced Lovren with Tsimikas and that they think everything else stays the same?

I wonder if feeling a little thin and then praying for health is just the way of the future.

Who can afford 30-40 mil for backups except City?

The issue is that ours are hurt every season. I don't think Gomez or Matip have ever gone an entire campaign at Liverpool without missing weeks at a time. Some players are just injury prone. They fit into that category unfortunately.

I think if it came down to it and we were in a situation where we had to play our currently non existent 4th CB, that guy is probably Fabinho, which removes a key cog from our midfield. All the more reason to sign Thiago

We've got a guy in Gini on the last year of his deal with no contract talks. Outside of maybe defensive workrate and familiarity with the system, I don't see any part of his game that's superior to Thiago. The best part of his game IMO is his ability to retain possession in tight quarters, something that Thiago is also renowned for. If the rumors are true and Barca are willing to pay 20 million for him, Make that sale and go buy Thiago. He strengthens our starting XI

I get that guys seem to get hurt all the time but we’ve still seemed to do pretty good the last 30 months.

Like I said before. Is it that this is the new normal?
