supposedly the issue in Can's contract extension is that he wants a release clause and FSG doesn't.
Apparently Cou wanted one too, but we're trying to not do them anymore. I guess if you're willing to pay enough up front, you can do that. But you may lose some players along the way for free (like Can).
If true, its ballsy but I like it. Possible that it blows up in our face, but with inflated transfer prices, who knows where they will go. 70m now might not sound like as much in 3 years.

Give Can a 100m release clause for next year, make it go up 20m or something every year after that to reflect the rising prices.

Coutinho is a bitch if he tanks it on purpose to try and force a winter transfer.
Let him rot in the WC year. You can still sell him over the summer.

You do understand that a release clause that never has any other team considering to trigger it is just as hard a negotiation tactic as no release clause at all, right?
Team: "You want a release clause? OK... we give in. Here's a release clause for 100 gazillion pounds."
Can: "Sweet! Where do I sign?"
No.

I think £70-75mm would be realistic... I mean you got to make someone pay over the odds or whats the point...
I read an idea that I liked somewhere that said we should make it that it can only be triggered if we fall out of UCL and not by an EPL team...
I think the latter is a must, the former would be nice if he'd agree...

Good. I can't believe it wasn't like that already.

Agreed, this was a common sense move that should have been done long ago

I think it has to escalate up, possibly be x% higher for a Bayern, Barca, etc. and possibly be based upon the previous years X (3-4?) highest midfielders average fee?
I just can't see setting it at 70m and then that's seen as chump change in two years time.

yeah, I don't know how they'd do that... I'm sure its possible..
That said, if Can is playing like a £70mm player, then you probably rip that one up and increase his wages with a higher release clause in a couple of years..

Hoping that, one day, I can find a woman that looks at me like Lovren looks at Mane.

Joyce's latest article suggests Karuis may be the keeper for UCL... interesting..

Loris for CL, Migs for PL and Ward for Cups is what The Echo is saying.

One of the greatest Klopp quotes ever and further instills in me the belief that it is Klopp that is running this shite and FSG has decided that their role is just to sit back and back him 100%.

"Liverpool's position has always been that Coutinho has not been for sale. We spoke to Klopp and he said, 'I wasn't manager when Suarez was sold, I wasn't manager when Sterling was sold - I'm manager now, and we're not selling him.”
Also:
quote:
"They have not blinked, they have not bowed down. There have been smoke and mirrors from Barcelona, but it was all nonsense. Barcelona are in a mess, Liverpool are in a very strong position.
"I think Coutinho will come back into the side and make a sizeable contribtion.
"We have to give credit to FSG for taking the stance they have and backing Jurgen Klopp. I hear such little credit given to them, but they have shown they want to go in a different direction and bring in more quality players.”

Klopp on the transfer window closing before the start of the season...
Gotta agree with him...

Love it, also may be in the minority here, but am perfectly fine with the GK rotation, Klopp evidently has faith in Karius as our future GK so we need to get him reps and with 4 comps this year it keeps everyone involved

I was watching the goal... he did go off at the end with a groin possibly... didn't look too bad...
We should be all over Werner too, his goal was sheer pace on the Counter...
