As many of you know, I'm in the States until next month, and tonight I was out for dinner at a restaurant in Atlanta.

I was wearing football shorts (wasn't really aware of it, BTW, damn it's hot here, it's like being in Africa), and someone stopped me to talk about tomorrow's match. "Big match tomorrow, eh?"

"Meh", I answered, "my boys won tonight, that's all that matters".

The guy went in to an anti Spain tirade, "I'm sick of seeing them win everything, seems like it's been ten years now, anybody but them, I hope Portugal wins, Germany is great, blah, blah, blah".

I now understand you SB tards a bit more.

Not to mention they are no longer entertaining to watch. Especially when they don't need a goal.

I think they've been entertaining (I'm obviously biased), considering they've seen nothing but bunker Ds.

If and when an opponent finally opens up, we shall see.

But yeah, they've adopted the Al Davis mentality. Can you blame them? We are talking about acquiring the GOAT moniker, no small feat.

Exactly. I loved Spain at Euro 2008, they had flair and killer instinct. Torres was still running rampant too. Now all they like to do is get a 1-0 lead and put the game to bed...literally.

Yes. I don't expect the GOAT to settle for 1-0 wins. Which they have pretty much trademarked. Their passing is great, but possession ball with no intention of scoring is a snoozer.

We must be viewing completely different matches.

Yep. Especially on Reddit. The number 1 thread with 970 upvotes on r/soccer is "Spain are boring to watch. There I said it." The past week the Spanish guys have been defending their country by giving us the "its all about efficiency and winning" spiel that they crucified Chelsea for using in the CL.

Admit your bias. But, I saw Spain playing more forward than normal. Jordi Alba was really atacking and positive today.

Weird, unprompted rant

"Oh, you like Spain? Let me tell you how much I hate them."

I could do without this iteration of the 4-6-0, though

no, I think if Chelsea were able to possess the ball, and maintain possession, and not have eleven packed in the box, nobody would complain.

I'm talking about once they go up in a match. They've allowed 1 goal all tournament and know that once they go one up, the match is over. They still take the chances presented to them, but they are no longer playing to score like they were when the score was level.

If the other side is doing nothing to level, it doesn't make much sense to blindly maintain a continued push forward, does it?

Well, to be fair, they are playing to win, not to please us.

If they can afford to bunker down after getting the lead, so be it. Yeah, it may be boring, but as long as bring in silverware, VDB couldn't care less at how they are perceived.

Meh, he profited from Villa's injury and scored the winning goal. He scored what, one goal in the previous tournament matches.

To be honest, all of Spain was more surprised with his form at Liverpool than the English were.

Spain does not bunker down. They go to the equivalent of a quasi basketball four corners.

I respect that they could become the GOAT.

I hate them because they could become the GOAT.

I would like to see Spain trot out the 4-5-.5 one more time.

Yes, I expect more from the "GOAT"

France is as much to blame for not getting possession as Spain is for killing the game with back passes and horizontal balls into space. France was pitiful in possession today. Making shitty passes in the middle of the field and not pressing Spain's backline just played into Spain's strategy. Benzema was absolutely useless and put almost no pressure on Pique and Ramos to make a low percentage pass.

Spain completing 1067 passes in one game = clinic
