Every sport has idiots, soccer is no different.

Instead of disparaging the game itself, how about we shift the focus to a guy that clearly was not ready for the moment and simply pandered to a powder keg fan base.

Yuichi Nishimura

I seriously doubt there are any refs at this WC who could handle the pressure. I think people are underestimating the difficulty of the job. Nishimura probably wasn't ready, but we've seen the pressure get to even good refs like Webb.

Refs are always biased toward the home team. I think he did fine in the first half and his mistakes in the second half were all excusable except the PK. He has a long way to go to reach Koulibaly or Byron Moreno levels.

If the same call happened in the other box this guy wouldn't have any limbs right now

Brazil deserved to win 1-0 with no penalty kick.

It's hard to have possession when the other team is allowed to foul with impunity and your side keeps getting penalised.

You're right Croatia definitely deserved a victory it could've been a tie Bc that PK should've never happened and the first Neymar goal was so close to being blocked just a fingertip away and I do think their goalie could've stopped that one

Nishimura had a bad game for sure. Tough game to call, though.

I can't think of another time where he was this awful so hopefully it was just a fluke.

Webb was one of the best refs in England until that WC final. Since then it seems as if he is shellshocked and swallows the whistle constantly. Before then he was legit a good ref.

Historically suspect on the Continent. WC Final was the product of pressure to make the match a contest, instead of a blowout.

Won't deny that. But he was an example of how pressure can get to a referee. He hasn't been the same sort of referee since the WC final. He's not even decent anymore.

That's not a reason to not win a game. That's soccer.
