To answer your question OP: off base.
I'm not entirely sure what you'd expect USA soccer fans to do. They wear red, white, and blue, wave the Stars and Stripes, scream "USA" until their vocal chords pop, hate Mexico, and cheer loudly for their fellow Americans.
Tennis and golf fans act very much like their European counterparts with certain etiquette during matches and play. Not everything has to be Bud Light and Wranglers.
Jesus, either get onboard or don't. Frankly, I love what USA soccer fans do and I'm proud to be in their midst whenever I get the chance.

None of this explains anything except the cheering.
None of what you said explains:
1. Why MLS had to copy ridiculous Euro soccer names for American cities so that it sounds even more ridiculous and is completely obvious to the rest of the world that we have no clue about soccer we have to copy them.
2. How every "fan" had to become "a supporter". You know what Brit American football fans call themselves? "Supporters" - they don't start calling themselves fans just because they're watching American football...but the US fans have to become "supporters" and be "hooligans" just because they're watching soccer...how cute.
3. The phrases of jersey and uniforms changed to "kits" like across the pond...pitch not field.
4. Scarves...and other apparel that you never had seen before from American FANS...suddenly, we're copying Euro.
That's the point of the thread. American soccer "supporters" in the MLS are playing dress-up and pretending to be European soccer fans instead of just being themselves. Instead of meshing American culture with American soccer.

USA fans have done this well. Tailgating and (some of) the songs/chants you hear at games in the US are different than ones around the world (chanting Wu-Tang Clan lyrics and singing other American songs, I Believe...(which I don't like but the point still stands). Not to mention playoffs, a salary cap, conferences. There are a lot of purely American things in MLS.

Real Salt Lake, and I guess to an extent DC United are the only examples of this. There is nothing wrong with FC Dallas or Toronto FC and Sporting Kansas City isn't just a soccer team, there are plans for a rugby team and possibly lacrosse team under the same organization and it sounds better to be Sporting Kansas City (Sporting Club is actually the organization of all the teams in the network) than to be the Kansas City Wizards.

FC Dallas were the Dallas Burn at first. They rebranded because the Dallas Burn was a shitty name.

So, that's five teams. You may also want to count Toronto FC to get to six. However, there's also thirteen other teams.
New England Revolution. New York Metrostars (changed to Red Bull because of, you guessed it, branding). Columbus Crew. Colorado Rapids. Los Angeles Galaxy. San Jose Clash (rebranded Earthquakes). Chicago Fire. Houston Dynamo. Seattle Sounders. Portland Timbers. Vancouver Whitecaps. Philadelphia Union. Montreal Impact.
There are also two defunct teams: Miami Fusion. Tampa Bay Mutiny.

I stopped reading after a page of this thread, but some of the guys on here made some really superficial and intellectually lazy posts. You guys making these assumptions are not ones who consistently watch soccer.
