The Best and Worst from Ligue 1

Best:
Mandanda (Marseille), Maxwell (PSG), Luiz (PSG), Silva (PSG), Jallet (Lyon), Payet (Marseille), Verratti (PSG), Pastore (PSG), Lacazette (Lyon), Ibrahimovic (PSG), Fekir (Lyon)
Worst:
Mandanda and Payet
frick Thauvin though.
If he didn't suck so much, Marseille could be playing Champions League football. So much for being one of the "best" young players in France. Doesn't matter now though, we're going to the Europa League and losing Ayew and Gignac.

Newcastle wants Ayew bad

Didn't realize we had another Marseille fan on the board. I lived there for a year and went to a bunch of the games. It was great. What don't you like about Thauvin? I'm well aware of his weaknesses by the way. Seems unfair to pin CL hopes on one player

Jallet (Lyon)
I was happy he made the best XI. Underrated player and I was disappointed PSG let him go so easily.

This guy...I guess some players just don't live up to the hype, but damn, he doesn't even look like he cares.
Don't Spurs still want him?

All right, Marseille fan.
I have high hopes for Thauvin, but his attitude sucks. Then he ends up on a list like this. When we lose out on the Champions League by 2 points to Monaco, I just think if Thauvin could have put in better performances for his talent level, that could be us.

I get what you're saying, but Bielsa ran that team into the ground. I saw Gab Marcotti even write something about it over the weekend.
It also didn't help that Monaco was awesome on the road this season. If they had just been decent, Marseille would've had 3rd wrapped up a couple weekends ago.

Bielsa looks headed for West Ham. Next year will see big changes for Marseille. Hopefully we get a quality manager and some fresh blood. It will be exciting, but kind of scary.

Fat Sam to Bielsa? Those players will revolt by October.

the "pink paper" this morning reported that Mazzarri had met with Marseille yesterday, for whatever that's worth.

Don't know anything about him. Anyone care to inform?
Also I didn't get to follow Marseille much this year because I'm super busy with school, but wasn't Bielsa supposed to be pretty solid?

Walter Mazzarri? He managed Sampdoria when they made CL (with Cassano/Pazzini) then moved to Napoli when they had their best spell of success with Cavani, Hamsik etc. . .
He then took Inter job but had had a falling out over control of roster and was replaced by Mancini during this season.
He's well known for being a catalyst behind the defensive first but jailbreak counter at pace style 3-5-2 that was all the rage in Serie A for a couple of seasons and being cantankerous.
Someone who followed Marseille more closely could answer better since I only caught their higher profile matches. However, my understanding is that his parting ways with Marseilles is kind of like Mazzarri's with Inter --- not the best results but leaving more over disagreements about transfer policy/control.
It would make sense for Marseille in that Mazzarri has a good track record of taking squads with some young talent and getting them into CL spots. That he seems married to the 3-5-2 should mean that most of Bielsa's players fit his style though the main difference is that the pressing won't be as constant, intense, high risk with defensive structure and counter attacks the name of the game.

Yeah, the fans seem to love him. His teams are high-pressure and high-attacking, so they're fun to watch. Like I said earlier, I think the team just got run into ground in the 2nd half of the season. This was his first season, so I'm a little surprised the club only gave him a one year deal and he's ready to move on now. If he had some time to sign the guys he wanted, he could find some success.
Best comparison I can think of is Klopp at Dortmund. Build a philosophy and when it's going good, it's really good, but when it goes bad, it can look disastrous.
