So, right now Juan Agudelo doesn't have a team?

Am I correct. We are closing in on the middle of August and he is not part of any team?

Is he still training with Orlando?

Correct. There was speculation about him joining Hannover, and then Sporting Lisbon, but no moves have materialized yet. I'm sure he's holding out for some reason or another, because he could easily sign with an Eredivisie team.

From what I've read, he's been having trouble getting his work permits approved

Normally only a problem in Britain.

It is really strange to me that a young striker who has shown his fair share of promise has not been able to latch on SOMEWHERE. Is he asking for too much money or something? Very odd.

To me as it being August, he need to make a deal very soon. It's almost now or never time

Supposedly clubs shy away from him because he has yet to accumulate quality minutes with the Yanks.

I'm not sure if it's just clubs shying away. Juan is 21 and has shown some level of goalscoring ability in MLS. You know he has clubs trying to sign up. Young players are always in demand for both potential skill and money. Getting a free agent one is rare. He has to be pushing his luck with either wages, PT promises, or quality of team he'll sign for. I hope he doesn't screw himself over.

per his wiki

quote:

On August 9, 2013 it was announced that Agudelo had signed a pre-contract agreement with English club Stoke City and will join the Potters on January 1, 2014 once his contract with the New England Revolution has expired.[22][23] However the move fell through after he was denied a work permit.[24] Despite this Stoke completed the signing of Agudelo on January 21, 2014 and loaned him out to Dutch side FC Utrecht for the remainder of the 2013–14 season.[25][26] He scored his first goal for Utrecht on February 6, 2014 scoring against PEC Zwolle in a 2–1 defeat.[27] Stoke re-applied for a work permit for Agudelo in May 2014 but were again unsuccessful.[28] Following this Stoke mutually terminated his contract leaving him a free agent

so this really isn't his fault

I understand why he's not at Stoke. I can't hold that against him. It's just a bit worrying that he has not signed with either Utrecht again (and the reports are that they were interested in signing him), MLS (still possible since he's a free agent), or someone else. I would love to see him back in MLS. Columbus could use a nifty little striker to pair with Higuain...or drop Higuain into attacking midfield with Agudelo and the big man Bedell.

I digress though. He just needs to get something figured out, and I have to believe he has options. I'm just not sure what the hang-up is.

Supposedly there have been offers, including from MLS, but he has turned them down because he is holding out for something better. Kind of dumb. He needs to be playing.

There's a rumour that Celtic tried to get him again but were told by the SFA that there's no chance he'd get a work permit.

They should drop the work permit rule for lower level leagues.

That surprises me that the SFA wouldn't jump all over the chance of getting more Americans in and trying to get more into the market. I understand it would just be one club, but one would think the SPA needs all the help they can get.

I hope he finds some club in Europe since it's a little pointless to join an MLS club now since the season is about over. I remember seeing stuff a few months ago that 1860 Munich had interest. Best option would be to sign somewhere and then maybe see what is offered in January.

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Kenny Jackett has said U.S international Juan Agudelo could become a first-team striker if the Championship club opt to bring him to English football.

Colombian-born Agudelo, 21, has not played a competitive match since his loan spell with Eredivisie side FC Utrecht ended in May.

"He's got a little bit of everything, and at 21 it will be interesting to see how he develops. But we'll have a look at the game [a behind-closed-doors friendly against Queens Park Rangers' development squad on Friday] and see how he does."
