A new low point for modern American soccer
Not making the world cup was our low point, so let's not get hyperbolic.
Berhalter is "uninspiring" but I think he's tactically sound and will allow us to play to our strengths. He's not going to act like Klinsmann and try to make us something we are not. He understands the pool and the American mindset and I think we will actually have an identity for the first time in 8 years.
Is it an exciting hire? No. But a lot of people were excited about Klinsmann and that didn't turn out so great. I'll withhold judgment until the Gold Cup.

This would make less sense. You hire a guy to not implement/work toward something and the hire a guy even later to try to establish a system once qualifying starts?
It wouldn't make sense to do that, no. But if we settle for Berhalter because of no one taking the job....maybe we decide to wait it out a for a year, get someone in there, and try again later...?

I want to see the list of other coaches that were in consideration.
For all the talk about transparency during election, it's been the opposite so we know that ain't happening. I think the only only person who said he was interviewed was Pareja. And btw he's coaching Tijuana now which could be more damaging considering Dallas has the best youth setup in the country.

I don't think your going to get much transparency from any coaching search in any sport.
Coaches don't want it, clubs don't want it, and the hiring party doesn't want it.

Oh God it just hit me. We are never going to be rid of Will Trapp now.

I’m really hoping Trapp and Zardes don’t become permanent fixtures on the team.

Who was going to hire him a year ago?
Wasn't his brother already the COO at that time?

Nope, we are the USMlsNT now.

I don't know what his position was, but they weren't going to let anyone do anything until after the election in February.

I don't see why they would. Zardes may somewhat be involved a bit, but mostly because we have no depth at forward. Wouldn't be surprised if Trapp got a few call ups just to help teach the system (if Gregg uses the same system as with Columbus), but I don't see why he would make him a permanent fixture.

I wouldn't expect anything less from an organization that does everything half assed.

He will do exactly what is expected
Beat a bunch of crappy teams in the confederation
Maybe beat Mexico
Qualify for a WC, and not get out of the group
O yea but will keep his job for winning the joke of a tournament know as the gold cup
I’m sure tactically he will strike fear during the WC

Saving this post for when we make it out of the group in 2022

There's no way of knowing this... Bob Bradley and Jurgen made it out of the group. Hell Bruce made it to the quarters.

After having Klinnsmann, Arena, and then no coach for what seemed like forever, I don't think I really care who is leading the team, as long as they have any kind of tactical sense.

Give us the Cliff Notes on the Columbus system.
See they played a 4-2-3-1.
