In this scenario I'd imagine it would have to be City.
Disagree.
It’s probably Tottenham. Not due to popularity or fan base at all
Man City just has more money to throw around

So what clubs around Europe will form the 18 invited to this?
The EPL top “six”
Barca and RM, maybe Atlético
Juventus, maybe AC or Inter Milan
Bayern Munich, maybe Dortmund
PSG
And make there no limit on the number of clubs from one country, so that a few successful non “big six” EPL clubs can become part of the 3 that earn their way in, as determined by the UEFA Champions League

It will only be 5 as the OP/article said
quote:

All 3

All 3 + Roma

These 2 (although in a recent article when this came up in 2018 Bayern was very vocally against it, I actually wouldn’t be shocked that with Germany’s stance in this kind of shite they don’t join)
wouldn’t be surprised if Leipzig gets in with their financial backing
What’s also noted Is Schalke is normally one of the more valuable teams in Germany and Europe but they’re dog shite right now and going through money issues
quote:
PSG
Possibly Lyon and Marseille
With Germany this makes 17
I also feel like maybe some of these teams will be thrown around
Porto or Benefica
One of the big 3 in Turkey
Shaktar
Ajax

Would you be shocked if the league goes more toward representing cities than the actual clubs in them?
That way they can expand the TV market to places that currently don’t have a high level club

No they’ll pick the clubs with the largest following/best financial backing

Think you’re basically hitting all the “top” cities with all the teams they’re predicting anyway.

LINK
so what you're saying is
#2 Galatasaray
#3 Chelsea
#3 Arsenal
#4 PSG
#5 Real Madrid
#5 Atletico Madrid
#6 AC Milan
#6 Inter Milan
#7 Borussia Dortmund
#10 Barcelona
#14 Roma
#17 Manchester United
#17 Manchester City
#24 Ajax
#29 Bayern Munich
#36 Olympique Lyonnais
#37 Liverpool
#41 Marseille
#43 Juventus
#47 Shakhtar Donetsk
i can't see Donetsk or any French team other than PSG included in right off the bat. you'll also have to have spots that can be earned, and they said it will have up to 18 teams. that's why only so many can be founding members

It’s a league to protect the major players revenue permanently
A league of the top not based on merit or quality
It would just lead to a consolidation of power and best players even more than now

so what you're saying is
So you’re just going by population size? No that’s not how it works

you'll also have to have spots that can be earned,
That’s not at all what anything said has pointed to

Have they said anything about that?

Yes why it will just be 18 of the “most valuable” clubs

Yea which makes it’s a bullshite league

I really hope Bayern and god forbid BVB tell them to pound sound. this is so far outside the realm for the German football ethos. frick England. period

What?
The 18 that they choose will be the ones they deem most valuable

I’d want it to be the central destination for every top player in the world, much like the leagues in America are in our sports. I kind of feel like I’ve missed out as a PL fan seeing the greats from other leagues (I’m not trying to find all of them on tv). If they can ensure parity and their superiority, it’s the natural next evolution of club soccer.
Yes. I’m the “plastic” fan that will watch this league, as an American who knows American sports. Some need to deal with it.
When we talk about the big 5 leagues in Europe, that’s 98 teams, plus the major teams like Ajax or the Old Firm who aren’t in one of those leagues. That’s too many for most fans to follow. The Champions League was an attempt at this but it’s imperfect

Being led by American owners they are trying to lay the groundwork for a closed franchise system

American owners use sports teams as another investment
They’re great at making money

Well yea duh
Problem is that’s not the culture of most clubs and leagues around the world
A majority of owners just want to win and break even or turn a slight profit
Not turn their clubs into something they can milk money out of like the Glazers

They don’t give a shite though. LBOs man. If only you can make them illegal in sports
Then again never mind that’s communist

Do you think the league itself doesn’t care because they’re getting more and more cash with them, John Henry, The Saudis etc?
