I very much considered Jaap Stam over Nesta, but the Cannavaro/Nesta combo was just so freaking dirty in the back I couldn't leave him out.

Maldini I can't argue with, though as I said, I just prefer Roberto Carlos. I guess I go back a few years over some others here in that Cafu, Thuram would easily be in over Lahm at RB.

Ask me again in 5 years.

Nothing against Thuram and Cafu being in anyone XI, great players. I've seen a lot of Lahm and really like what he brings to a team. Maybe it's that I'm a German fan but I think Lahm is an all-time great at right back and possibly left back.

Exactly. I didn't go by who was the best in each individual position. I just tried to find a formation to make all my favorite players fit.

If I created a starting 11 that would work much better. It'd be different. but frick it.

my bench:

Landon Donovan
David Beckham
David Villa
Yaya Toure
Cambiasso
Kaka
Viera
Roberto Carlos
Giggs
Riquelme
Zanetti

Schmeichel

Cafu -- Nesta -- Cannavaro -- Maldini

Schweinsteiger -- Zidane

Ronaldinho -- Messi -- Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo

Not really sure it's fair to include Schmeichel, since I don't really remember watching that much of him, but he was playing at France '98 so I feel like it's fair to include him.

There were a lot of tough decisions. Brazilian Ronaldo and Zidane were the only locks. I really wanted to include Rivaldo, but I already messed with the formation enough to get all those midfielders in.

Isn't that the point of the thread , or is he asking for what we think the best starting XI is?

Anyway went with the former

Chilavert

Thuram-Terry-Cannavaro-R.Carlos

Beckham-Matthaus-Zidane-Nedved

Eto'o - Drogba

I don't think it's that crazy. He is one of the best players in the world.
