I would be lying if I said FIFA the video game wasn't partly responsible for my interest to go from just watching the world cup to being INFATUATED with the sport now.

The U.S. soccer audience is also unique in Luker's eyes. "It is a true community. The only group that comes close are college sports fans or followers of the Grateful Dead. They embrace soccer as a communal lifestyle as opposed to a personal experience or a community that only exists on gameday."
This.

i firmly believe that FIFA (the videogame obviously) is seriously responsible for soccer's rise in the 12-24 demographic. the game is absolutely everywhere. it makes people like soccer. it might be THE driving force behind soccer's rise.
Yup. The only reason my little brothers watch soccer when it's on (they're 15 and never played a day of soccer in their life).
Because of that game, they can game virtually every player on the top 5-6 clubs in the world.

My best friend got into soccer because we started playing FIFA together. We ended up seeing several games in Europe together and some Gold Cup games. What has been said about FIFA is totally true.
Also, he loves Joey Barton

Ah the good ole days when it was us against the world. I don't miss them.

It wasn't necessarily my gateway to the game (although FIFA World Cup 2002 was my childhood addiction), but it's how I have learned most of the rosters outside the EPL and the big non-English clubs.

i do love how when people want a (insert board here) board, they always bring up the soccer board

Funny Jake. It is a top ten Board every week in number of posts. A very welcome addition.

i dont miss not having a soccer board at all. i was trying to become a true follower then, and i hated how every soccer related thread got taken over..
of course, that was around the same time we had a huge influx of people to TD, and the MSB declined greatly..
for the OP, its nice to see an article that talks about actual facts related to American soccer interest, and not 'the US would dominate if Lebron played soccer'..
