I saw that Grant Wahl tweeted that. My first thought was take it to the MSB. Then I didn't want to waste the time.

I see little kids running around in Messi jerseys all the time. The future is bright! I don't think there's any question that soccer is more popular than baseball among the under 40 crowd.

We're at the point where people like me who were kids when international soccer made its rise on American television are now in college.
I imagine what it's like for my youngest brother, who will essentially live his whole life in the Fox Soccer Channel on a ton of cable/satellite providers and the EPL on ESPN era.

My high school soccer coach and I were talking about the amount of games on tv now compared to a few years ago yesterday. He told me that with the exposer of these elite teams and tactics, it would be almost impossible for the USA and MLS not succeed greatly in the future. Which I completely agree with, I have so much more knowledge now just from watching EPL and Bundesliga games, than I did when I was being coached by one of the better coaches in all of Louisiana. You just can't overstate how important it is for younger kids to see true professionals play regularly. He also told me that if I had half the knowledge/technical skill I have now I would have actually been decent (jokes on him since I was all-metro twice but still)
Point being, the spot in the article where it says one more generation is all that's needed for soccer to really take off is completely accurate IMO. We've been saying that for a few generations though...

I was just talking about this with my friend the other day. I understand SO MUCH more about soccer now, from a tactical standpoint, then when I played in high school after being able to watch quality soccer almost daily. I can't help but think how much better me and my team would have been.
And my nephew, who is 6, already claims soccer to be his favorite sport, in an area referenced in that article where soccer is not king.

i firmly believe that FIFA (the videogame obviously) is seriously responsible for soccer's rise in the 12-24 demographic. the game is absolutely everywhere. it makes people like soccer. it might be THE driving force behind soccer's rise.
