This would effectively destroy the free market for clubs. Terrible idea. Mitigates risk and waters down an already watered down product.

It would make the Champions League boring if they did that. There should be a reward for good play and a penalty for bad play.

Although, I do wonder sometimes how my drives would be still listening to Stilitano brag about having dinner with Sir Alex in the mornings

Everything goes back to SAF, wine, him being Italian, and Giuseppe friggin' Rossi. Everything.

"So Charlie what do you think about baseball?"

"Crazy you ask. Yknow being Italian makes it unique for me. The other night I was having dinner with sir Alex.......Ferguson, yaknow, and he was telling me about this wine to try"

Isn't this what the Europa does already? Give big clubs that had a down year a change to play in a European cup? I just started following a year ago so forgive me if I'm talking out of my arse.

In theory, yes, Europa League does mean a few bigger clubs are still playing in Europe after stinking it up in CL or their domestic leagues the previous season.

However, they mainly feel Europa League is beneath them and more of a "distraction" than anything else.

Europa League is currently envisioned to be the cup that gives the clubs from smaller leagues a bit more chance to enjoy some matches in a Europe beyond being fodder in a CL group for Real Madrid and Juventus

If you want to make more people care about Gent and PSV, one idea would be to make it harder for the EPL to raid them of every single player of their roster anyone has heard of every single year.
