personal reasons to leaving a player off
I think this is the issue most of us have with Donovan's exclusion. It was pretty obviously personal and left home a player better than some of the ones we brought along.
And I'm sorry, but if you can draw up a scheme that makes Davis > Donovan, I'd love to see it.
quote:
Neither are goal scoring chances.
There's a difference between a free kick specialist who is average to poor at everything else, and a goal poacher whose only job is to score.
Davis hurt us that match, badly, and never had an opportunity to use the one skill that got him on the plane. That's what I'm talking about when I referenced taking more off the table than bringing to it.

Yea but what if Donovan would have been bitching or complaining about his role the whole time and would have been a cancer. The two did not get off to a good start together and maybe Jk was scared it would continue.
Maybe he did it just to make a point. I dont care anymore because he is doing pretty damn well. and hopefully that continues.

there is a good argument for including the FK specialist against germany as being fouled/ getting corners is maybe more likely than chances.
quote:
We heard the same arguments against beckham. He is only good on set pieces and with his right foot.
Yes compared to different tables, No Davis isn't as good as beckham or Klose. Then again the WAR (wins above replacment) of Davis to Bedoya (or other) is similar to the difference of WAR of Beckham to scholes or wright phillips or Joe Cole or Klose to Gomez or podolski or Mueller.

Goal poachers don't usually have MAJOR defensive responsibilities. That's a pretty big issue.
What evidence do we have that Donovan would ever have done this?
His teammates loved him by all accounts.
Klinsmann himself said that the other coaches would have selected him.
He's done nothing but say all the right things, before and after his exclusion.
This sounds like a serious reach.

It is kind of weird to go against your whole staff, but he is the coach.
If Donovan was doing something seriously wrong, then it would have been released to the public.

So you think it was just a personal grudge of JK to leave him off?
No valid reason what so ever?

I've heard the argument before with beckham in englands and Manutd's squad about 12 years ago. Doesn't hold weight then or now for me. If a player is that good at set pieces, he is worth it. do you think the game would have changed against germany with the inclusion of someone else?

This isn't necessarily true either. I mean, why would it certainly have been released to the public? What if this was just between Jurgen and Donovan?
What if every single sign pointed to Donovan going then he did something or said something that made Jurgen doubt? What if Jurgen was making a decision not based on some event, but based on the debate of Donovan starting? There are plenty of plausible reasons for not bringing Donovan. We just don't know.

quote:Whoa, slow down. I made ONE post on this thread, and you pick ONE point out of it, and tell me I don't comprehend???
The problem is that this does not make sense. We are not Germany where one world class option replaces another.
We brought Julian Green and Brad Davis. They are not good at this time. This is no way this decision makes any sense. I really do not understand why you have trouble comprehending this.
1. I Never said we were Germany, but I DID make a comparison for the sake of illustration.
2. I do NOT know why JK made this decision, but he's got to have a reason why you leave off and L.D. and I would think, hope, pray that there's a tactical reason behind it all.
I comprehend pretty damn well, if I DO say so myself. But I support the U.S. and I support JK, and I hope we win ugly, because, now, I see posts saying we're getting results but not pretty enough. frick. We're not Brazil.

If there is a good reason for leaving him off, I certainly haven't heard it. What else is there to assume?
That's without even mentioning his son's tweet, which was pretty damning, IMO.

Do you think Brad Davis is anywhere close to as good at set pieces as Beckham was in his prime? Come on.
Posted on 6/30/14 at 4:11 pm to RedPop4
To your second point, there is no tactical logic behind. Donovan is versatile and offers unique attributes that would be very helpful to this squad.
Brad Davis is good with his left foot, but he sure as frick is no Beckham. When Bend It Like Brad comes to theaters, then I will eat crow.
I support the USMNT and I want JK to be the best possible coach possible, but it does not mean I have to like him.

frick dude.... When the hell did i ever say this?
Do you think the people replacing Davis are anywhere as good as those replacing beckham?
Damn man yall go so far to defend LD.

Maybe that you didnt hear it

Enlighten me, because it damn sure wasn't so we could play defensive soccer and pray we get a free kick while Brad Davis trudges around the pitch for 60 minutes.
And if that was the plan, then excuse me for questioning it.

I'm not going far at all. You're saying a free kick master is worth having even if you suck dick at everything else, so I asked if you actually thought Davis was on that level.
Your response tells me that you do not, so what makes him valuable enough from set pieces to justify us getting throat fricked down the wing by anybody who cares to do so?

because i said that should be the strategy for every game.

Im going to go with the opinion that JK knows what he is doing and all the LD sympathizers here don't nor do they some how magically know every interaction with LD and everyone at the camp. Just my 2 cents.

The fact that anyone going down that wing for Germany would have throat fricked us. LD is not some magical figure that is fricking superb at defending while also being the best in the world at attacking.

I didn't say this but yea keep telling me what i said.
I have responding to this accusation multiple times but you refuse to listen to any of the responses. its about WAR in certain spots. If we aint getting shite for possession and aren't attacking, why have a player on the field for those reasons. If we are going to defend and try to win set pieces why not have a player who excels at set pieces on the pitch.

I knew this was coming. Coaches aren't perfect, and there's a chance he got this one wrong.
This is also the textbook reflex argument when one can't answer a question being asked of them.
I think Donovan is a better player in his current form than Brad Davis and others who made the squad.
You don't.
Agree to disagree.

How so? No one but Jurgen has enough information to answer this question. All this admits is that we don't have enough information. Anyone saying that it's a bad decision is saying they have all the information Jurgen has, which isn't true.

Correct.
But is there also a chance he got it right? Or, better question, what would prove to you that he made the right call? A cup win?
quote:
I think Donovan is a better player in his current form than Brad Davis and others who made the squad.
Of course he's a better player technically. But is there a chance he doesn't fit the scheme or the plan that Jurgen is executing?

frick man, I never said this and repeatedly through out this thread and in many others said that LD is better than Davis and others.
I have also stated i think there are numerous off field issues on why you would leave a player behind. And that LD prbly falls into one of these reasons. It has been ruled as speculation and that speculation is completely impermissible.
I don't understand why my speculation is any better or worse than yours or the other LD fan boys.

This is also the textbook reflex argument when one can't answer a question being asked of them.
No you just refuse to acknowledge my answer
I have stated since the day this happened that i think there is more to this story than JK think LD is not better than 23 other US players. I have stated that it is prbly personal and the JK though LD would be a cancer. You have rejected this argument, but i have made it and given you an answer. To say i havent is foolish.

I haven't said this. only that he knows a little more to the situation than the rest of us and i give him the benefit of the doubt a little sooner than a dude i know only on a message board as NawlinsTiger9

I'm ok with it being a personal reason. I don't want anyone on the team that isn't 100% behind Jurgen or not on the same page as him. Right now, I believe that all 23 of those guys are on the same page.

This. I dont understand why not having everyone on the same page is not a justifiable reason to leave someone home. It is justifiable reason to cut or trade someone in sports.
