Marquinhos isn't much of a step down from Luiz, if one at all.

I would say Verratti is probably the most irreplaceable/valuable player on their team and then missing Motta on top of that is certainly a blow.

Also losing Ibra to that absurd red card has to make them feel snakebit.

I don't think the stage will be too big for Rabiot but not having Motta's experience in there with him would seem to be cause for concern against Barca.

What do you think the lineup will be? Still 4-3-3 with Matuidi - Rabiot - Cabaye in midfield? Moura, Lavezzi, Cavani up front to have the better pace/defensive work rate?

Should be ok, even if not nearly ideal, though Blanc may need to get creative if he has to sub a midfielder?

At least Cavani will hassle Barca's backline in defense and make runs if PSG nick the ball in dangerous areas.

That Marseille match was among the more entertaining of the season.

Cavani certainly needs a couple of goals. It seems the kind of thing you see over and over where a striker is in a slump and tries to do too much or go too fast whenever he gets chances. Aside from the final product he still looks good in build up and tirelessly running into great spaces.

I would still love to offer him the chance to move back into the CF spot at Roma.

Yeah, Cavani is exactly the type CF that would fit Roma's style and there's not many who fit that bill. It doesn't seem all that likely though.


Doumbia was the plan at CF but he returned from ACON with some nagging back injury, has looked out of sorts the couple of times he's played and been back and forth between training with the team and doing specialized physical therapy the entire time since he arrived.

Ignoring or not realizing he was injured and making it worse by trying to play through ACON seems the real mistake of the winter though I still think he could be pretty good for Roma in the future.


The Destro loan is also a good example of the excessively rabid and schizophrenic fan/media pressure in Rome making a situation untenable. People criticize Garcia for not playing some younger guys more like Ucan and Parades but they really eat them alive after a couple of bad matches. Hope the same doesn't happen with Iturbe, who's saving grace has been possessing more of a fiery, passionate demeanor on the pitch than Destro.

Verde's been a pretty hotly discussed prospect for a while but I think it was more of a surprise than a plan in how well he did immediately in desperate times.

Agree about Ibarbo not being a substitute for Totti/Destro. He was brought in more to offset losing Gervinho to ACON and rotate with Iturbe /Ljajic /Florenzi but, again, was injured immediately.
