MLS championship memorial day weekend would kill it ratings wise
Big time. Right before NBA finals start so no real competition for air time with anything else.

Yeah London was a bad comparison. Warsaw has pretty similar weather to Chicago

We can start September and play till December
MLS Cup has been played in Toronto in December, other playoff games have been played in early winter.
Garber is a knuckle head tho
The major thing is getting MLS on the same transfer window cycle as the rest the world. MLS is becoming that spring board to bigger leagues and most the world does a majority of its buys in the summer. Also MLS team are less likely to let a player go during the summer bc its the middle of the season.
Also gives international players a chance to go home when everyone else is in the off season.

Anything to do with NFL?
Why the season is when it is

If anything the MLS playoffs are during the heart of college football and NFL so it would be better to move it away from that time you would think

I can't help but think that one of the quickest ways to make people care less about this league is to take a 1-3 month break in the middle of it and have it compete with at least 3 major American sports/leagues at all times.

All I hear is excuses from you
In your eyes the MLS way is always the right way
MLS playoffs and cup during the spring and ending Memorial Day would be awesome
Especially since most the NBA and NHL playoff games are during the week you can have MLS playoff games Saturday before anything else comes on or even in prime time
Having the most important part of the league in the heart of football season is stupid. People who been watching during the summer will prioritize football over MLS once it’s that time of fall.
Only the small group of niche MLS supporters will still tune in over football
Thing is that small niche does nothing for ratings

Imagine how epic of a day it would be
Champions league final on from morning until late afternoon then roll right into MLS cup
Would also help with overseas views too bc everyone is high on footie that day

The inverse question is why don't the other leagues line up with the MLS? Before you run me out of here, I heard on Sirus a discussion about how this might be helpful for the 2022 World Cup. I neither ascribe to this theory or disagree. I only bring it for discussion.

The temps. in England and most of western Europe are heavily influenced by maritime effects, resulting in a moderation of both cold/hot temps.

Winter break in December and January
This has been brought up before. I wouldn’t be opposed but it would be an anomaly for American sports and might not go over well with fans.
Posted on 5/7/20 at 9:38 pm to cwil177
It would make the league more attractive to better players though
Increased quality makes the league more viable in the long term
Most soccer fans in general know about a winter break, explaining to newbs is just part of the process.
