No, Klinsmann was a huge problem and was partially responsible for this downfall.

He was a gigantic part of the problem. Don't be a chode gobbler. He was a fricking idiot who dug us the gigantic hole in the first place with his skidmark tactics and halfbrained lineups

behind setting soccer back a decade in our country this is far and away the part that bothers me most. if they don’t give a shite why should we? how on earth could the entire squad outwardly carry a disposition of apathy knowing what’s at stake?

it goes against everything we know about evolution. i’ll never fully understand what was/is going through their heads

Whatever bogey man allows folks to hide from the real problems facing US soccer.

Gulati stuck with Jurgen too long. When all signs pointed to the players not responding well to him.

I don't know what else to blame at this point.

That's a big part but they had every chance to right the ship after. Even Bruce turned into a pussy. I wanted him because he usually takes no shite and delivers no nonsense. He turned into an apologetic little frickboy over the last year.

He was on ESPNNews. I'm hoping someone posts his rant, it was perfect.

I agree, BUT the one thing he could do was motivate the players, and evidently this group of assholes needed motivating.
By the end he couldn't do that because they quit on him due to the fact that he was clueless.

People like Howard are just the worst. They'll probably blame Trump somehow.

His motivational tactics only work for so long until people realize he has the tactical acumen of an autistic goldfish. Even after that was obvious, Gulati let him keep his job for a couple of years. Then Bruce went all limpdick on everyone. Jesus, I'm so mad.

Funny.

I usually get bitched out when I mention that the US has a lack of world class players because none of them are "stars" in European leagues.

I get a lot of," Well, so and so plays minutes for this team, and this guy starts for that team (none of whom are Real Madrid or Man U or Bayern or Juventus)."

The only sliver of hope is Puliscic. He has that je ne sais quois, and was the only one really playing hard tonight, but he couldn't do it all.

I have come to really appreciate and enjoy soccer, but I'm not a fanatic like a lot of people on this board are, so I can step away and see the total disparity in natural talent between US players and pretty much the rest of the world. In the rest of the world, kids get their first soccer ball in the crib, before they can walk. In the US, our kids get their first soccer ball when they are 6, 7, 8, 10, etc. And their first coach is usually someone who has never played.

As natural as it is for an American kid to instinctively know how to shoot a basketball, throw a football, or have a game of catch with a baseball, it is equally unnatural for an American kid to know how to handle a soccer ball. It's that simple. And that's why the US fails.

I disagree with a lot, agree with some, but my big takeaway is that your point's matter when we play Argentina - not Trinidad. We should always be beating the Trinidad's of the world.

As someone who doesn't follow that closely, could you explain what's the deal with us pushing MLS players over other players? What are some examples of this?
