Our youth teams be wreckin' $h!#

Inspired by the recent signing of Mukwelle Akale by Villareal, and in honor of Sheep, I decided to open up a wee discussion about the state of our youth teams.
I'm going to start with the disclaimer that youth results really don't mean a whole lot, yadda yadda yadda, before segueing into voicing my opinion that you can see a noticeable, steady improvement in our players' technique.
So while I could wax poetic about how our youth teams now routinely get results against teams that were making us their bitch just five or ten years ago, how their movement is sometimes more inspiring than that of our full national team, how we finally have prospective #10s, and how their understanding and awareness of the game has also made great strides, I'm instead going to just post some vids here and let y'all watch for yourselves.
U-17. Players to watch: Haji Wright, Christian Pulisic, Joe Gallardo
Nike International Friendlies
US vs England (5-1)
US vs Portugal (1-2)
US vs Brazil (4-1)
US vs Bosnia and Herzegovina (4-1)
US vs Croatia (1-0)
US vs Croatia two days later (1-0)
US vs Canada (3-0)
US vs Real Madrid (1-1)
U-17 Aegean Cup
vs France (2-1)
vs Norway (5-2)
vs Scotland (1-1)
vs Turkey (2-1)
Dallas Cup U-20
vs River Plate (3-2)
vs Eintracht Frankfurt (3-0)
vs Tigres (1-0)
vs Fluminese (3-1)
vs River Plate (0-2)
All here.
Overall played really well in this tourny, just got tired in the end I think. Also starters from the beginning of the tournament got recalled to their club teams. Lyden Gooch, Romain Gall, Rubio Rubin, and Ben Spencer all seem to have put in solid performances.
If y'all got any other vids go ahead and post them.

Wright is certainly a great prospect, as he's one of the youngest on the U-17 roster and has a great combination of technique and athleticism.
That said, Gallardo and Pulisic are both special players (the latter having been scouted by Barcelona, apparently... or so I've heard).

I'm good with "Hey, check this guy out." I bristle at "this 16 year old is light years better than anyone we have currently, and should start now."
While we're on the topic of young future American internationals - have you followed Wil Trapp and Harry Shipp in MLS this season?
I've been particularly impressed with Shipp.

I've really only been following TFC and Seattle (I have to say that Yedlin just keeps improving). I don't have much time for more than a few soccer games a week, unfortunately. I've seen some nice Wil Trapp highlights but I've never heard Shipp's name before.

He's Chicago's first Homegrown Player.
He's been playing as an outside midfielder. Really smooth passer, already takes most of Chicago's corners and set pieces.
He reminds me a lot of Stuart Holden during his MLS days. Holden played more centrally, but the skill set seems the same. If you see the Fire, check him out.

Obviously kids stop getting better, others that have never been noticed become international stas...but are theses other teams "A" teams? Like cream of the crop, or so the countries think?

I haven't seen enough of Trapp, but you can tell he has a good soccer IQ.

I went to several of the Dallas Cup games. US teams did very well at all age groups against international competition.

You throw enough serious amounts of resources (like we in the US have over the past couple of decades) at a sport and it will bear fruit. That's what we are seeing.

That's basically what Soccernomics says about the US, Japan, Iran... well that, a good sized population, a growing interest, etc.
