Opinions regarding Man U's FK yesterday

Link is to the video of goal.
Afterwards, one of the commenters, at least on Fox Sports, mentioned that the three United players in front of the keeper, who are all technically offsides impacted the run of the play and therefore the FK shouldn't have counted, per offsides rules.
I was just wondering what the SB's opinion on the matter is?

It reminded me a lot of the Colombia goal against the US in the friendly awhile back. Not a FK, but a player was right next to the ball and didn't touch it or anything after it was through'd and another player ran through line and scored and no offsides was called.
It makes me wonder if this is more of one of those rules that's really difficult to actually call.
I mean if I was a United fan, I know I would have been pretty unhappy had it been disallowed.
I guess offsides will always be a call though that can't be perfect.

Yeah, in this case, it seems to be at the discretion of the referee. It's hard to quantify what is and is not in the GK's line of sight (outside of extreme, obvious cases)

It's a judgement call. The center ref and the AR have to be in communication to get it right. You have to decide if the player in the offside position impacted the play.

Michael Essien had a belter disallowed in extra time of CL semi final second leg against Liverpool because Drogba was in a similar position.
Much like with handballs there needs to be more clarity/consistency in how to correctly call these situations.

Our Europa opponent used the same tactics against us. LvG post game he said that he asked the refs prior to the game if that was legal and they assured him it was.
In sure you'll find othe refs who disagree. I guess we'll keep doing it until it gets called against us.

The offside players affected the way the goalie approached the play, so I think by the letter of the law the goal shouldn't have counted.

That's what I was kind of thinking. Just depends who the referee is and if he wants to make the call or not.

ETA: I watched the game and goal and the replays afterwards. They were 100% offsides

initially yeah. but they start to run up before the ball is kicked and some random shrewbury player drifts back.
they're behind the shrewsbury players right in front of them but i'd need another angle to see if they're behind the guy off to the side.
I'm not saying they WERE onside, but it's certainly not clear. Not from that angle.

I'm talking about the replays like after the goal was scored on live television.
That's the only replay I've seen and it was on r/soccer.

well if there is no side angle at point of contact with that ball that's disappointing because like i said a shrewsbury player is drifting back and potentially brought them onside.
If however, they did not get back it should be ruled offside. That's pretty clear to me they impeded with the goalie.
