I disagree. People care about the W.C.

throwing around that world-class line a little too freely there I'd say

if you don't think Howard is world class idk what to tell you.

I agree that Dempsey is on the cusp of being world class.

Howard is one of the best 10 keepers in the world. I'd say he's world class.

Donovan is not world class. If he was, he'd be starting for a big time Euro club. He is just an above average player.

I have a hard time even considering him "above average"

He's solid for us but world class is a huge stretch

Disagree. His '02 and '10 world cup shows he's at least above average on the world stage.

The thing is... we have two above average players... and a bunch of mid-table "guys."

That's it.

"Oh noes, we can't win a world cup with barely average talent. Who knew???"

I think Donovan would be a much better player if he stayed in Europe.

Hasn't Donovan stated time and time again that he wants to only play in the US?

Yet look at the performances against Ghana and Slovenia. The only reason we got those results was due to horrible initial tactics (and one atrocious officiating decision). The team should be doing better than they have (albeit not by much).

Look at the rosters of every team in the world. There are not 15 teams with more talent than the U.S.

As for Donovan, the guy was amazing in the 2002 and 2010 World Cups. He had a great loan spell in Everton but was mostly ineffectual at Bayern Munich. He hasn't moved from the MLS because of his salary in the US. Same reason why a bunch of Russian, Turkish, and Ukranian guys are unknowns in the world scene. But he is a very skilled player and could make it in the starting rotation of a ton of quality European sides.

Mid-level European teams. Not top rate.

Yeah, I would think he could make it at mid-table English sides (well, he has already done that) as well as the top sides for leagues in Turkey, Ukraine, Russia, etc.

He probably disappears too much to get in the starting 11 at a team that routinely gets in the elimination stage in the Champions League.

Donovan could start for plenty of top teams.
