Only a serie A fan would start 5 holding center midfielders in the midfield

Edu and Bradley will not play on the wings.

I didn't word that very well but I will admit to thinking Lippi would've been good hire for us.

I meant one of Jones/Beckerman/Williams at a time at the base of the pyramid with a narrow central midfield pairing of Bradley and Edu or Torres and with Dempsey at the top of the pyramid.

Maybe the problem here is that all the width in the attack has to come from the backs getting forward and I don't know very much about our LB situation.

Our best LB is Tim Chandler. Chandler fricked on us. Doesn't want to be cap tied to the US. German/American.

Second best LB = Eric Lichaj. According to JK, he doesn't have enough experience.

At least we don't have Bornstein.

Well we would have 0 width and it would really be more of a 4-3-1-2.

I don't think a formation like that, or really the 442 diamond for that matter, would work because we don't have the over lapping fullbacks who will supply the width and I don't think we should start 2 strikers unless a.) Dempsey is up top or b.) we have to score a goal.

The strength of the team is the midfield and the weakness is fullback and striker so I think a 4231 or a 4321 makes the most sense

The only reason i'd think about two strikers is because Jozy isn't fully developed and it's always nice to take pressure off of him. Him and Davies had a knack for each other. I doubt we find that. , I wouldn't mind pairing up a speedy/shifty player up top to play off of him.

But, you are correct with the strengths of the team.

Well Jozy has spent the last year learning to play up top alone at AZ so I actually think he should be able to handle it now. We don have a speedy forward like Davies (was in the past) available so not like that could happen anyways.

Agudelo, Williams, Morales, Zusi cut. Have to admit the traveling roster looks pretty good. Beckerman and Castillo aren't popular choices, but even including them its the most impressive group we've had in a long time, right?

GOALKEEPERS (3): Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Everton), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake)
DEFENDERS (7): Carlos Bocanegra (Rangers), Geoff Cameron (Houston Dynamo), Edgar Castillo (Club Tijuana), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Clarence Goodson (Brondby), Oguchi Onyewu (Sporting Lisbon), Michael Parkhurst (Nordsjaelland)
MIDFIELDERS (7): Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Michael Bradley (Chievo Verona), Joe Corona (Club Tijuana), Maurice Edu (Rangers), Fabian Johnson (Hoffenheim), Jermaine Jones (Schalke 04), Jose Torres (Pachuca)
FORWARDS (6): Jozy Altidore (AZ Alkmaar), Terrence Boyd (Borussia Dortmund), Clint Dempsey (Fulham), Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy), Herculez Gomez (Santos), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes)

I still wish Lichaj was there to play LB.
Supposedly Castillo and Corona have a partnership on the left, but I don't think Corona starts over Johnson at LM. Who plays LM if Johnson is LB?

Agudelo, Williams, Morales = all wasted roster spots. I have no idea what JK was trying to do there. Maybe just to see where they are physically ?

Agudelo = coming off knee injury.

Williams = coming off shoulder injury.

Morales = ???? Coming off a shitty season.

I think he was just keeping WillIams and Morales in the fold.
Agudelo was hurt but isn't anymore and still is one of our top forwards.

Agudelo's/Wiliiams form has been minimum because of his injury. Is my point.

I feel the same pain. He has only been ruled out for one game at this point, let's hope it doesn't nag him over the summer qualifiers

I expect he'll play Johnson at LB and Torres at LM.

Juan Agudelo, Alfredo Morales, Danny Williams and Graham Zusi are not among them, as the four were cut from the national team roster by coach Jurgen Klinsmann ahead of the team's upcoming five matches.

quote:

As for the cuts, Williams was nursing a shoulder injury he suffered at the end of his season with Hoffenheim and was not fully fit. Agudelo just got dealt to Chivas USA and is working his way into his new club while finally getting extended minutes. Zusi was unable to distinguish himself in a crowd of central midfielders, and Morales, who can play in the midfield and defense, ultimately lost out to more experienced options ahead of him.

I wouldn't be surprise to see boca or parkhurst at LB. given our lack of options to play on the wings I'd expect Johnson to be playing LM. Not sure corona is really suited to play out wide but it looks like we might find out. Also, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Wondo get minutes on the left where he plays at times for the quakes
