??? Dandy disagreed (called Spain GOAT and explained his criteria which was NOT that they are the 'best') as did several others ???

No he didn't. He said they had the best resume, but best team was debatable.

That is what he said.

All I am saying is they are GOAT as there have been better squads out there.

He defines GOAT as not the best, but the best resume. I disagree. That is all I was saying and there was disagreement. Thats all and why I said we agree to disagree

Pretty sure he was talking about modern football because he also said this:

quote:

TFTC is right, best side is arguable. The argument here is not about the best side. Today's side was not even the best side of Spanish history, and I could mention Spanish sides that didn't make quarters that were better IMO.

*shrug* sure.

With the original poll, I will stick with the words 'all time' meaning 'all time'. Otherwise I would suspect someone wouldnt say 'all time'.

If someone is using those words otherwise, like some predefined era other then 'all time' then that is a different conversation. Yes Spain is probably the best team in the last several years. To the extent that meets the definition of 'all time' then yeah, no disagreement

No, but mostly because I hate reactionary goat titles.. I might come back and proclaim them that in a few years though

Also I'll agree that they are clearly the most accomplished team.. But I doubt many would agree on one team that satisfies the true greatest team of all time (I.e. the team that would win a world cup comprised of all the world cup winners..)

I say they're in contention, but I wouldn't give them the crown right now. Not knowing the context or field that the Pele team was up against, I can't really be a true judge of it. They're definitely one of the scariest teams in recent history, though. I think if they keep this level of play up through the World Cup, we can give this a much more concrete comparison.

To this relative newbie, they are the best I've seen.

The way the game is played today is different than when Brazil was dominating from 1958-1970. Players would be sent off today for fouls that were routine back then. For that reason I think what the Brazilians accomplished is more impressive. They had to overcome injuries inflicted during the course of play that modern players do not receive with the same frequency.

They are the best team since the "Good of the Game" rules were implemented.

Agreed. There are many factors to consider.
