They definitely have had the best run of any national team that I've ever witnessed...

Best individual team, I think is arguable...

Either way, you cant take anything away from what this group of guys have accomplished... not to mention the UCL's victories that some share

The brazil 1970 club won all 6 qualifiers and all 6 games in the tourney. No losses, no ties..... Perfection.

They were not in copa America in 67 and the next cops was not to 75, so they did not have an opportunity for a run.... But dominated like no other.

TFTC is right, best side is arguable. The argument here is not about the best side. Today's side was not even the best side of Spanish history, and I could mention Spanish sides that didn't make quarters that were better IMO.

In this day and age of parity (like someone was saying earlier), there is no doubt in my mind, Spain GOAT.

copa america is not nearly as competitive as the euros

Agreed it is not a tourney with close to the prestige of the euro. South American countries don't have a tourney like that. That s the fallacy of the 3 major tourney argument.

Is this one of the best runs ever.... Sure. But a team that needs kicks to make the finals and lost a game in the wc and needed ot to win.... Is not in my opinion in the league of 1970 brazil. We are seeing a 'recency bias'.

What Spain has done has been remarkable, but IMO they are not the goat

I think he was referring to the ole 'on paper' discussion. You know, apples and oranges, the 'what would happen in a one-off in a perfect world' type argument.

Nobody has achieved what Spain has. They are the GOAT.

I dunno about GOAT, my default position is always the 70's Brazil teams...I will say this however for most of my life Spain was a complete fricking joke, all potential no realization of said potential, the last three major cups Euro WC Euro have forever changed my opinion of the Spanish MNT

I think he is saying that the current Spanish side have undoubtedly accomplished the most all-time. Kinda like LSU last season. Most people were saying they had the best resume of all-time, not necessarily best team. A lot of LSU fans didn't even think they were the best LSU team of all-time. I think that is what he is saying. Knowing Dandy though, I am probably wrong.

By a criteria that limits the ability for such accomplishment to effectively European countries and none other. Unless we are pretending anyone cares about Copa America. Again, GOAT is the claim here.

No one called LSU GOAT last year. Greatest resume? Sure. Dont recall too many GOAT claims.

Again no discount to Spain. Amazing run...

I know what you are saying here, but this sentence makes no sense.

It was the same situation. Many fans and analysts were saying if they win the NC, they are the greatest. Best regular season resume and beat one of the best teams ever twice. Same with Spain. Most were saying if they win this Euros, they are the GOAT.

And I would say they would be wrong. Best resume; best run; best individual season? Sure. GOAT? No way. *shrug* I correlate greatest ever to be the best team ever. Agree to disagree.

Let me clarify:

I think the GOAT should be the best team ever. I put Brazil 1970 over any genre of the current Spanish run. You guys disagree and say it is the best resume that matters (ie it does not matter if they are the best to be GOAT). We agree to disagree.

My secondary point is there are only 2 major tournaments in the world that people and countries truly care about (WC and Euro). All non-European countries get to play in one every 4 years. Expecting them to put together a 3 straight run is unfair compared to European teams who can do that over 4 years. Obviously I am concluding Copa America is not a major tournament which is demonstrated by the quality of teams the countries bring to the tourney and passion (or lackthereof) towards it.
