The sides are in advanced negotiations that would have MLS double its rights fees to an annual average of $70M per year for at least eight years.

It would quadruple the previous deal. The previous NBC/ESPN deal was $17 mil.

MLS TV numbers are not really up, so I have to think this is Fox making sure they get soccer, plus the belief that soccer will continue to grow and the addition of US guys like Michael Bradley upping the profile for the US soccer fan that are only watching EPL, etc.

But its a good thing for the MLS for sure.

Even if numbers aren't up, live sports is quickly becoming the most valued commodity in television since it and breaking news are the only things people have to watch in real time anymore

Good for the MLS and good for Fox, they now have MLS and Bundesliga.

Loving how much soccer access we've gotten over the past 3 years.

I hope Fox does a better job than NBC did. Give the league a regular time slot so we know when there will definitely be a game on. I never knew when NBC was going to show their games.

considering the players are negotiating a new CBA right now, this and news of the big money defoe and Bradley moves really helps their position.

for MLS, having NBC become a soccer player was a godsend, it drove the price.

competition for signal is good.

I imagine we'll see the salary cap raised soon.

I think that is the biggest problem with the games on NBC. One week it could be on Saturday night, the next week Sunday afternoon, and the next Friday night. I think they should adopt flex scheduling so the networks can get the best possible game.

Now, maybe some of the problem is with the league. Maybe they need to work together on the schedule.

Yeah they need to do something. No reason at all why DC United had as many games on national tv as they did. As for Fox I hope they do not put any games on Plus because that would fricking blow. Also, please don't call up Gus Johnson to call some games.

yup.

also, NBC got outbid, they wanted it too, so FOX really must want this. Hopefully games will be on both FS1 and FS2 each weekend but who knows

Well from that article it seems that Fox might be interested in doing doubleheaders, which would be very welcomed. If I recall in the last tv dealings Fox put in a higher bid than NBC but they went with NBC since NBCSN was in more homes than Fox Soccer. Since Fox is about to get the World Cup I figured they would want to play some USMNT friendlies again. I do wish that Fox got the rights to air the away qualifiers.

I just hope this doesn't increase the MLS Live subscription. Getting every single game for just $40 was clutch.

Yeah the league minimum is pretty bad. If you barely make over $30k that doesn't get you very far if you live in NYC, DC, or LA.
