How many decent 22 year old Colombians or argentines could you get for one over the hill 34 year old spaniard?
That sucks.
That sucks.

and don't seem to hold overseas soccer in high regard
I'll give you a boring story:
I was visiting family in ENgland in 2002 and we were siting in a pub on a weekday morning watching USA portugal. Eveyone was in a great mood acting like they were about to watch an excecution take place.
We score in the 7th minute and it was like don't worry, now Portugal will only win 6-1.
When it was 3-0 after thirty minutes, the entire pub was in complete silence while I was going apeshit. It was like everybody got a acute case of indigestion. I was really shocked. I thought everyone would really be happy for the US to finally start doing well, especially our cousins across the pond.
It really downed on me that day, that no one in Europe or South America actually wants the USA to do well in soccer.
They want us to be like China and India and watch Champions League games and buy Man United merchandise and take our arse kickings in the World Cup nicely and go home.

So why so interested in this topic then?
I don't know what this means.
I thought the thread was about Michael Bradley to MLS?

Not saying that that is wrong by any means, but it is definitely against the norm. If you don't mind me asking, how did you become a fan of the MLS?
I was in school in the Bay Area and actually attended the inaugural MLS game in San Jose with Wynalda scoring the winner. Been hooked with MLS since.
I always loved the European Cup tournaments and actually attended the Cup WInners CUp Final Arsenal played in Paris in 1995. I was backpacking and did not even know about it until I was in Paris and scalped tickets to get into the stadium!
With each passing year in my old age, I just have become really annoyed by these "american posers" in my mind who are members of the Man United and Chelsea fan clubs without having nothing to do with any of these cities. TO me, this seems completely pointless. I would rather suport somehing that is created in this country.
Obviously the best soccer is played in Europe but I would like it to change in my lifetime. :)

You already mentioned in this thread that you aren't a fan of the USMNT
This is not true. They are my favorite team in any sport (club or national team). they are the only team that I actually have a jersey for.
Actually, in order, it is USMNT, Detroit Pistons, Univ of Michigan Football. There is no MLS team that I particularly grew up with.
I acutally don't enjoy watching USMNT games because they stress me out too much! I know that this is unhealthy. :) The USA England game in the alst world cup was a prime example.

have you ever been to england? There is no city in the states that i would live in over London
I live in Rancho Cucamonga. I like it fifty times better than London. I lived in SF and santa monica for 5 years each and they both blow London away.
We were in London last year for the olympics and my wife remarked that it ws a dirtier version of Manhattan. That is a pretty accurate comment.

we would need a viable 2nd division to start a promotion/relegation system
The United States will cease to exist as a nation before we institute promotion/relagation in any professional sport in this country.

b/c League 2 is the lowest level of professional soccer in England. The level of play is well bad way worse than MLS.
Compared to the Championship/League One which is about the same level of pay the MLS is not the same.
The average championship player makes 211K pounds roughly 350k dollars. The average MLS Salary in that link is 160k.
If you give me a choice to make 350k and live in England and 160k and live in the US, I would still pick the US.
Also, there is the hope and in the very near future, the 160k average will rise.

Come on bro. Let the man get paid.

You can't talk about this without including mls/Europe/usmnt.
how many posts can you make about whether Bradley as a defensive mid will finally get TFC into supporter shield contention?
I am curious to see what other USMNT player get lured to MLS.

Because the other thread has turned into another silly MLS/Europe/USMNT retarded free for all debate.
I thought the debate became decent the last few pages.
What different to talk about in this thread than in the last one? ...
other than MLS/Europe/USMNT?

Michael Bradley coming over won't change negotiations for the next TV contract.
Not everything needs to be in absolutes!
Getting people like Michael Bradley is one step in helping the TV contract.
Getting a footprint in the SE United States to make it a a more national footprint is another step.
A good performance in the world cup is another.

Nope. Extremely short season, limited time with coaches, limited time practicing.
Don't forget unlimited subs and backwards counting clock!!! It isn't even soccer.

Scholarship limits make it a terrible one for developing great talent. .
... along with a three month season and not playing under FIFA rules.

I agree with all of that. At the end of the day, I'm a US soccer fan more than an MLS fan, I want quality domestic players more so than a quality domestic league.
It's kind of a chicken and egg argument.
You know,
if you made this post at the beginning, this thread would have been about 10 pages shorter.

The goal should be that the American soccer watching populations prefers watching MLS rather than games from overseas.
There are two people on this thread that would vehemently agrue otherwise.

This thread is a whole lot of excited people and two folks arguing with all of them. Wasted effort IMO, not worth even engaging them, as no matter what MLS does it will always be second rate in their eyes.
yup

sorry but people over here are not going to tune into the MLS like we do their leagues.
I would. So would an average of 19k people per game.
