So would that mean we'd be place in a lower group (if that ranking holds)?
Posted on 7/10/19 at 12:27 pm to pvilleguru
Almost positive they only rank on games played during official international dates.

No. Games during official dates just count more.

That’s news to me. Then again FIFAs ranking system is double secret probation computations
Posted on 7/10/19 at 12:38 pm to pvilleguru
I suppose that would be ok. The weighting system would have to be such that no amount of non-official games could match an official game. The amount of official games allowed would have to be set to a maximum as well I would think.

The formula is on their website.
P=Pbefore+I*(W-We)
Pbefore = points before the match
I = Importance of match (I=05 for friendlies outside of international windows)
W = result of match
We = expected result of the match
We=1/(10^(-dr/600) + 1)
dr = difference in ratings of the two playing teams.
It's really not that difficult.

If you aren't pulling that out of your arse, who sets the "I" and "We" values?
And is the "We" value a standard thing?

FIFA has already set them.
I ranges from 05 (non-window friendly) to 60 (WC final matches from QF stage onwards)
We is based on the Pbefore you and your opponent had going into the game.

I find it interesting that CONCACAF spent time changing the entire system when it will only be in place for 1 cycle. Even if the North America World Cup goes back to 32 teams like Qatar, you still have 3 autobids from the region. I'm guessing there is no chance it stays at 32 for a tournament hosted by 3 countries. So, the whole qualifying system will likely need to be completely revamped for 2026.

I figure they can still do this in 2026. The host gets one automatic spot which will likely be given to the US since it's hosting most of the games. Concacaf will have 6 spots by then but two go to Mexico and Canada. Everything beyond that will need changed.

As it stands right now, the Hex would be
Mexico, 18
USA, 30
Costa Rica, 39
Jamaica, 54
Honduras, 61
El Salvador, 69
That would be one of the easier Hex's in quite some time.
The only teams would have a chance to break in would be:
Panama, 75
Canada, 78
Curacao, 79
Mexico, 18
USA, 30
Costa Rica, 39
Jamaica, 54

I don't think you can count out T&T and Haiti yet. The whole thing is based on points.
1557 Mexico
1495 USA
1453 Costa Rica
1397 Jamaica
1368 Honduras
1342 El Salvador
1322 Panama
1314 Canada
1302 Curacao
1260 Trinidad
1219 Haiti

Haiti and Curacao are in a Nations League group with Costa Rica. They can both make some moves with some wins.

El Salvador is in League B in a group with Dominican Republic, Saint Lucia, and Montserrat. They probably are going to lose much, but they also probably won't get many points from beating those teams.
Jamaica is in a similar situation. In league B with Guyana, Antigua and Barbuda, and Aruba.

A loss by either Jamaica or El Salvador could really open things up.

I'm really interested to see the standings once they are updated to include the Gold Cup results.
Posted on 7/10/19 at 3:10 pm to pvilleguru
Curaçao and Haiti should gain some points.
Posted on 7/10/19 at 3:12 pm to pvilleguru
Haiti will likely see a good bump after beating Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Canada. Curacao could get a bump from beating Nicaragua and drawing Jamaica.
There's going to be some movement.

the nations league is a waist of time esp when a majority of the federation has countries that have amateur level talent
I really wish I understood how this part of soccer works. But how would winning the Nations league be a waste of time?
