Ok. To repeat, the average MLS player remains as mediocre as ever with no prayer of seeing European football.

There are a million different leagues in Europe. Most of the mls can play in some league in Europe if they want.

Something a lot of people fail to realize when the inevitable “how does the EPL only have 50-60k stadiums max but the SEC alone has like 8-9 that are bigger.” It’s almost apples to oranges.

No one gives a shite about the Czech or Polish type leagues

MLS is clearly better than those

There are videos on Youtube with guys who played in Europe and MLS that disagree with your thoughts though. Heck there is even a guy on this thread who trained with a Euro team who disagrees with that. But you think they are wrong?

No one really thinks and MLS team would win a top 5 league. Its also fairly objective to say outside the Prem a top MLS can stay out of the relegation zone.

No it’s fairly stupid

Stick LAFC in Germany, Spain, Italy etc

They are going down or in a full on relegation scrap

They don’t have the depth to compete and MLS teams are bad defensively

Meh I wonder how MLS clubs who are used to Capri Sun and orange slices crowds would fare in a place with flares and barbed wire

We already know from the Concacaf champions league games in Mexico… not good

That’s why some want promotion and relegation here. Talent isn’t the issue. Mindset is

We need pro rel but it’s going to be hard to get a franchise in the US to agree to this.

Pro Rel won't happen for 20-39 years of ever. MLS will continue to expand for another decade. By then franchise gees may be 1 billion. You think MLS is gonna tell a franchise team that just spent 1 bil they may be in USL next year?

which would be retarded, the league is entirely already to big for a limited player pool, especially when we don’t produce enough domestic talent at at high enough level to stay at home

It’s never going to happen

Come on man

which would be retarted

I love this

But yes I agree further expansion is probably not worth it and would be an continued impediment/delay to pro rel.

2012-2022 expansion fees greater than 8x'd but 2023-2033 it's retarded to think it will slightly less than 3x? See no objectivity. You just hate MLS.

You an only go to that well so many times man before it bust

The League is entirely to big

It can’t keep expanding and raise franchise fees to generate revenue for a league that doesn’t make a profit

You are promoting a Ponzi scheme

Now it is a smart investment bc you never get punished for being a terrible team or owner. You actually get rewarded by collecting checks from SUM and use financial loss as a tax write off.

Nah I’m just a realist

I started going to MLS matches from the first season and even saw DC United win MLS cup at RFK

Well it's your opinion it's not a fact. I think WC and even Olympics are 2 times a team USA will be fielded on home soil in the next 5 years and will bolster interest in a growing sport where attendance numbers are at an all time high. Those are 2 things hard to refute.

That statement literally does nothing to counter what I said about MLS and how it’s ran.

The WC will be awesome no doubt but new fans to the sport will always gravitate to the best players and teams and when they find out those players play in Europe they will watch European football

If you field a US team full of MLS player who are in below average quality for the international level to just generate interest for MLS it’s going to be a disaster showing for a host WC nation.

MLS has its place but it’s not going to become some juggernaut of a league any time soon. Especially with its current construct.

A league this size for a first division is already insane esp without the domestic talent to support it. We have had this discussion before but you keep ignoring that glaring fact/issue.

This is accurate. MLS will always be a sellers league, but unlike the Eredivisie we don't have organic 100 year old teams that can sustain players being sold off and replaced with domestic talent.

Some of the newer teams with money in MLS have done great scouting South American talent, but with the salary cap the big sales off to Europe aren't doing anything but helping the owners make money.

Yep spot on

European clubs going after MLS talent are looking for young Americans fresh out of the academy or South American players in their early 20s who used MLS as a springboard

Which is completely ok, MLS reaching that level of Brazil or Argentina is great bc it means our best domestic talent is making it abroad and will improve the national team

European clubs are not kicking down doors to snap up your average MLS player.
