That’s rough. I mean yes that’s a really rough injury as a result of the challenge, and it was definitely dangerous. If I’m the Sweden player though I’m first to the ball by a substantial amount of time and there’s no real other place to put my leg

Ukrainian player will be very lucky to get away without serious injury, but the knee ain’t supposed to move like that.

See idk if I agree with this statement. You’re a defender and you’re first to the ball. It was really unfortunate the way his studs collided on the Ukraine player, but when he goes to clear the ball out there’s no way for him to know that’s gonna happen. In that situation as a defender if you think you’re gonna get there first most coaches would tell you to make a play on the ball
ETA: definitely still a red card though

And I’m telling you, if the Ukraine player challenges in any sort of different way, all it is is a clear ball and no contact is ever made. That same type of challenge gets made all the time and doesn’t even result in contact much less a red card.
Like I said, the way it happened it’s a definite red card and an extremely dangerous play, but that doesn’t mean the movement and decision making of the Swedish player was inherently wrong

I always melt when the fig side of soccer shows itself. Also, so glad Twellman isnt announcing right now after that ball to the head
