Quote from van Gaal's speech last night:

quote:

"Expectations are too high," the Dutchman said. "We are in a period of transition. It is not so easy. We have to meet the expectations of the biggest club in the world."

Honestly, I hope LvG stays on for an additional year.

We still have a shot at 4th. If we finish there, he should stay.

4th and a trophy would be considered progress even if we did look shitty along the way.

Agreed. Plus he needs to be given credit for introducing players like Rashford, Fosu-Mensu, and Borthwick-Jackson who really do look like "United players."

Mourihno comes in and you risk ending the youth revolution.

No doubt. Don't think you'll get 4th though. That will be tough on the board. A trophy will help LVG keep his job though.

It is very possible if Arsenal and United win this weekend. United would control its own destiny.

That's my biggest worry about LvG leaving. Don't want to stop the progress of the promising young players.

Well today is the first of three must win matches. Norwich has to come out attacking so we need to take advantage today.

I found it interesting that if United win their final two matches, they'll be 20-9-9 (W-D-L) for the season. Last season, they were 20-10-8.

The main difference, and the ultimate issue that sticks out to me, is that United have only scored 44 goals in 36 matches. Last season, they had 62 in 38.

The replacements have mostly held form this season. Martial needs one more league goal to match RvP's 10 from last season. Memphis needs just one more league goal to match Di Maria's three from last season. You could even say Lingard's 4 has replaced Falcao's 4 from last season.

The problem has been the ones who stayed. Rooney has dropped from 12 to just 7 this season. Mata has dropped from 9 to 6. Herrera has dropped from 6 to 3. Smalling had 4 goals last year and has zero so far, although you can't really fault him too much since he's a defender.

To me, a lot of the woes have had to do with the degradation of LvG's style this season.

The only real progress has been the cup runs. The record could be slightly worse in league play with a big drop off in scoring, as my previous post shows.
