Just read LFC has no more money to spend this window. Loan deals may be the only option at this point.

Skrtel stayed home so either Carra or Coates in his spot.

I think Henderson gets the start.

Your second front 3 looks about right to me.

My main problem with it is the lack of shape from the forwards.

Well that may be because of the system. We worked the center a good bit due to BR's hatred of the cross. It wasn't until Carroll came on late that we started widening up. Makes sense I guess because you'd think we'd be able to break West Brom down. I'm assuming the two were so close because they were trying quick one-twos off of each other, both being technical players who prefer to work in close quarters.

Every Liverpool supporter should watch this.

The parts of the video of Kevin Keegan playing are unreal. The movement and one touch passing are something I'm in awe of even watching 40 years later.

One of the foundational aspects of the system is spacing. That's why you see the defense so spaced out. Spacing creates passing lanes. It creates space for movement. That is why width is so important in this system (look at Barca). Downing is receiving the ball almost at midfield. That really narrows his possible impact on the match since his role is supposed to stretch the pitch. Without width, there is nothing preventing other clubs from crowding the midfield.

Both the midfield and defense maintained impeccable shape.

Sorry, I guess I wasn't very clear. By "the system" I meant how it is being interpreted by the players. They are being taught not to resort to lobbing the ball in for heads, and to pass to feet. As an English player, being taught not to resort to crossing the ball as much naturally may mean to stay centrally more. Maybe I'm oversimplifying it, but the players in the English game have shown me that they can't separate the idea of playing with width without resorting to crossing the ball.

Fair enough. That might be a real problem although Borini isn't english and had no width either.
