I think he's quality and since he's played for the boss, I trust his judgement.
I don't think he's a sexy pick up, but can be highly effective in BR's system.
I wonder what it would mean for Henderson's growth? Maybe just delay it... Is the future Henderson, Allen & Lucas (I personally rate Henderson higher than Shelvey) w/Jonjo, Suso and Spearing (hopefully, someone else) as subs?

Just a question but wouldn't yall want a more quality player than Joe Allen at 15 mill? Or do yall think he is that good?
He plays the most important part of the system. Rodgers needs a guy to play the Xavi role. I do think Spearing could be that guy in 2-3 years if put in the mold by Rodgers. I'd like to get Allen, but obviously I'm hesitant at that price. But, like TFTC said, Rodgers knows Allen and he would be like a puzzle piece who is ready to play in the system now.

With all due respect to you and to Jay Spearing I just can't ever see him fitting that mold. I could just be overly pessimistic about him. If anything I see keeping him as a third option for early cup matches or injury plagued spells. I hope I'm wrong though.

Now Laudrup is saying that for what we spent on Henderson and Downing, Joe Allen should be going for £20m...it's sad that Liverpool are now viewed as a club to be taken advantage of during the transfer windows.

They are plenty of midfielders at reasonable prices. If I were Rodgers I would let go of my man crush on Allen and go find someone else. Young British talent is always severely overpriced.

Well I mean he is kind of right. Clearly Liverpool is willing to pay overpay for young British players.
Like DB said, if ya'll aren't willing to pay up for Allen then Rodgers needs to just move on, plenty of holding midfielders out there.

He certainly has the ability to play there. Him and Allen are very very similar. The only thing that really separates them is Allen's presence on the ball, his excellent positioning and his passing proficiency. Jay was thrown to the fire last season and that killed his development. He lost all confidence early on and just wasn't able to recover. Given a couple years, Rodgers can drill the system into his game.

I see Spearing as a good squad player but he is limited.

I disagree. Spearing and Allen do not play the same position. In a midfield 3 Spearing is always the one sitting deepest and breaking up play. In Swansea's midfield Britton occupied that space, granted his role was more along the lines of a pure distributor. Allen played further forward and had fewer defensive responsibilities.
Allen and Spearing are similar in that their primary responsibility in their system is ball retention. Allen can also act as a playmaker, something I don't believe that Spearing is capable of.

I don't know what to make of Jay. Could be that he just needs time, could be he'll never be more than a serviceable squad player. As for myself, I'm no talent evaluator. But I think it's unwise to write any player off. And this includes the likes of Adam and Downing. Lucas wasn't always the player he is right now. A few years ago I would cringe when I saw his name in the lineup. If you told me then that he would be one of the most important men on the pitch (arguably THE most important), I would have laughed at you. But things change. Players progress. We will see what happens.

I think Downing can come back to being a good winger not so sure about Adam. I think he is out of his depth at Liverpool. He can barely move.

I also disagree. They can play the same role. Obviously Jay won't be an AM. Last season Jay had to play the traditional "destroyer" role because of the injury to Lucas. He is not a natural DM. He is a CM with identity issues. Just like Henderson who played on the right all season, Jay was played out of position and it highlighted his weaknesses. Allen was also played at DM many times last season. And while he is better than Spearing, he looks like a CM to me (similar to how he played with GB). He may play as an AM at Liverpool once Gerrard retires, but I don't see him being bought for anything other than CM.
We saw it in the first match against Gomel. Rodgers subbed Lucas on, pushed Jay to CM and Gerrard to AM.
He is not first team material right now. But I think he can be if the club has patience.
ETA Don't forget that despite getting crucified last season, Spearing managed to have the highest passing % of any midfielder in the squad (86%).

Exactly. He sharpened his physical tools and worked on his positioning and passing. Adam is a lost cause IMO. He is 26 and there is no changing his game.

Congrats on signing that racist troll Suarez through 2016!!!!!

I agree... I see spearing as a pure DM, where Allen plays in more of an advanced (creative) role...
Spearing can fill in, in a pinch... but not long term (see last year). He just does not have the class of Lucas, who is perfect for the role... Not so much of a destroyer like Masch was, but he reads the game so well and gets in the right places to intercept the ball. He can also do the dirty work if need be.

I don't see it. He is massively undersized and frankly looks out of his element when played there. He does a decent job with ball recycling, but his main problem is getting others involved and pushing the ball forward. Like I said, I think he is a CM with identity issues.
He is a good tackler and a good passer (just like Allen). Allen had a couple years in Rodgers' system and that improved him tremendously.

While I'm not his biggest fan and hated we paid so much for him, I dont think he's that bad and has a place. He had atleast 3-4 lasers that hit the bar (none more evident than his missed PK against Chelsea) and put in some good balls that we just didnt convert (theme of 2011/2012). He's def no world beater, but he can have a place in this team...
Adam is not LFC quality
