I want to keep Altidore out there starting, but I am excited about Sargent. They both need minutes, especially Sargent in friendlies.

We have a friendly coming up against Mexico in September. I want 80% of that roster to be guys under the age of 25 or guys that we can get a closer look with.

Absolutely no reason to call up anyone that is established for that.

That's not what I was suggesting.

I do want to see some of the young guys in Olympic Qualifying. So this starts in October right?

Weah is not a striker. He's a winger. I hope to God we don't try to shoehorn him. His quality is too good to play him out of position.

He did play the 9 very well at Celtic under Rodgers though.

But I also want some guys who will be fixtures in the 11. Seeing them mesh with Altidore and other older guys is important if the older guys will play in WCQ

From here on (maybe excluding the camp cupcakes), I think at least 75% of every 23 man roster has to be first choice players.

Not necessarily against Mexico, but for one game I want to see a starting lineup of

Sargent, Weah, Pulisic, Pomykal, McKennie, Adams, Lima, Richards, Miazga, Cannon, and Steffen.

No one over 25.

Miles Robinson for Richards to keep with the sub-25 theme.

I get that but Long and Brooks are our 2 best CBs for me and they're both 26. Not like they're ancient

While I agree that our younger players are, as a group, better, I also think fans always overrate prospects because they represent hope. It's easy to take for granted the guy you already have.

Which is a long way of saying that not playing Brooks when he's available is insane.

I don't think anyone is denying that Brooks is an automatic starter.

Thank you. Even among the board's better posters, we LOVE to overrate prospects. And then once they are called up, we shite on them for not performing.

It always kills me when people suggest playing guys only 25 or younger or whatever. I don't give a shite if someone is 32; I want them in the lineup if we believe they are the best for the foreseeable future.

The "next" guy is not always better.

Pretty sure I’m still sub 25

But Long and Brooks back there are solid. I’ll take them and all the children at other positions.

Amon could play, but he's just incredibly one footed and inconsistent.

Sounds like you just described de la fuente. He was one of the players I was most excited to watch at the u20 WC, and he left me more than unimpressed, I came away thinking I don’t see this kid making it to the senior team ever. He’s young so anything can happen, but I was not impressed.
