This is not another thread bitching about the omission, this is simply to celebrate the international career (which I assume is over) of the best player the United States has ever produced.
Thank you, Landon Donovan, for everything that you have done for the growth of this sport in this country.

You just made me cry again.
My 15 year old son - defensive tackle for football and keeper for soccer - was out running when the news broke and saw how upset I was when he got home. When I told him why, he gave me a huge hug and said "That's just not right."
He's the first player he remembers watching and second to Howard, his favorite.
Ugh.

Same, I'm still excited as frick for the world cup, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that this puts a huge damper on it for me.
It's just so gut-wrenching that this is how his international career ends.

At least his last goal for the USA was a dos a cero goal against Mexico.

The 2002 World Cup was one of my happiest memories as a sports fan. Both of my teams had completely unexpected runs and I realized even then, that you can go a lifetime without seeing something like that even once.
On the US side, I will always have fond memories of Donovan, Pope, Sanneh, and O'Brien, along with the play of Friedel in goal. Beasley showed a lot of potential there as well.
But 2002 wasn't it. His goals against Algeria, Mexico, and his 2013 Gold Cup were all fantastic.
Thanks for everything you did, Landon. From the original generation of Cobi Jones, Eric Wynalda, John Harkes, and Alexi Lalas to the next batch of players like McBride and Reyna, you carried the torch for the best generation yet.
Onwards and upwards.

that slovenia goal is so fricking underrated. looks for the pass for days, has nothing, and just fricking buries it. dear god.
my 2nd favorite (to algeria, duh) might be the counter attack against brazil with charlie davies. that was great soccer.
15 penalties, i think. so confident when he steps up to take one. frick the fact that dempsey started taking some (frick jurgen).

This really affects my opinion of Jurgen. I seriously doubt that we could not use him this world cup. Landon was the most consistent US offensive player that I've seen
