St. Paul’s going through similar situation as LSU football this year. Probably best team ever last year, lost a ton of starters, and now add in injuries and Covid quarantines. Both starting center backs didn’t play this weekend.

Jesuit is very good this year.

Yep, and both are top 3-4 players on the team.

Why are Jesuit and Catholic not playing each other today?

Dalton (GA) HS got to about 100 games before they finally lost 2 years ago. They were traveling to Texas and Oklahoma and whipping their top teams in tournaments while winning 6 straight state titles.

When was this?

It was from 2012-16. The streak was 80 games unbeaten and it was snapped in the region tournament where they lost on penalties. I refereed 3 of their matches during the streak.

I think the record over those 80 games was 78-0-2. They were also 23-0 in 2019 and the top ranked boys team in the nation by USA Today. They have several kids playing professionally in Mexico and the USA.

While impressive, I dispute the claim that they were beating the best teams in Texas. I have no recollection of that.

There are actually 3 different high school soccer seasons, depending on where you live. Obviously we play in the winter because it’s the south but it’s in the fall or spring everywhere else

Louisiana, Texas, Florida, and California play in the winter.

Which made the St.Paul’s number 1 ranking in USA Today, Maxpreps and Top Drawer Soccer last year impressive.

I doubt Texas club players, FC Dallas level, play high school soccer.

ETA: I know that’s mostly irrelevant, but I doubt the top 100 U15-18 players in Texas play school sports, probably a much higher number.

Not sure what that has to do with anything. But yes, HS programs in Texas have to contend with a few DA programs. Many of the best players do not play HS, but there are some that do. Every year, kids will quit Academy just so they can play HS soccer with their friends and for their community.

As does Georgia.

Tennessee is interesting; they split the girls and boys. One plays fall and the other plays spring; I can't remember which is which.

DA was eliminated this year. Georgia had 5 DA programs including Atlanta United's.

DA wasn’t eliminated. It just changed hands. It went from Us Soccer control to MLS control. Here in DFW, Solar, Dallas Texas and FC Dallas have MLS DA teams. Those kids aren’t allowed to play high school.

But that is a topic for another discussion.

It was eliminated. MLS just created something new and invited some of the top non-MLS clubs.

So after winning 48 in a row and then losing 3 in a row, St. Paul’s is back to their winning ways.
