It seems that people forgot that Arena was the coach in 2002 and that he was instrumental in developing two awesome players in LD and DMB. He has an unparalleled record of success in USMNT history.

I think he does a better job with getting dual nationals than our precedessors, but this board suffers from insane recency bias.
Anybody? Sure, there would be some coaches that do marginally better and a good bit that do marginally worse. He is certainly a very good recruiter. I never said he was a bad coach. He is just not THAT MUCH BETTER than Bradley or Arena.

Look, I'm a Jurgen fanboy, and that's been clear to anyone here for decent period of time. That said, I think that no matter how much good he does, he will always have detractors because of a select few of his bad decisions.
Regardless how you feel about the personnel choices, he's done things that ostracized a big group of the fanbase. It's not a mystery why people don't like him. This constant bickering over it isn't going to do anything.
I like where U.S. Soccer is right now, but I don't fault someone for questioning Jurgen overall. Just the way it goes for managers.

Even though we completely disagree on Jurgen and argued ad nauseum at one point, I totally respect your opinion on US Soccer. As usual, you had a great post.

Actually hendo, with all the stuff he's done outside of the USMNT with the USSDA and coaching education I'm starting to think he is much better. He is streamlining US Soccer which was badly needed.

No other coach has ever been given this much power. He has done a lot of great things but he's not head and shoulders above Bradley and Arena until it's consistent and he outperforms them in a World Cup

Let's be honest, yes Klinsi plays a big role in youth development, but he isn't the only variable here. With the recent growth of soccer in the States, our youth pool was bound to get better regardless of who was in charge.

I would say that 2014 is probably our best WC performance in modern history. Obviously, we made it farther in 2002, and it was a bit of a coming out party, but we were still a defensively oriented team predicated on out hustling the opposition.
We came to play in 2014, and the world took notice.

I still can't tell if we are better because of Klinsmann or if we are just better because we have a far deeper pool of players than we have ever before had in our history.
