Yah, I imagine it's very easy to overdo it from a tactics perspective at this level. It's not like club play where the guys are together 300 days a year.

Keep it simple, keep them hungry\motivated, keep them in shape. Give them the confidence, and a green light, to play attacking football. You have to be willing to accept a beat down every once in a while.

I knew someone would post that, and I completely reject the premise of it. very different game plans.

2002 - Sanneh and Hejduk (Frankie played as a mid in a 3-5-2, so you could argue semantics about whether he was a mid or an outside back)
2006 - Cherundolo and Lewis/Convey (and Bocanegra tried at that point). It didn't work, but we tried it.
2010 - Cherundolo and Bornstein (not as much with Bocanegra).

Aside from the random match here or there, we pretty much play the same as we have for the last 15 years. Technique is improving, willingness to probe through the center is improving - but watch USA - Portugal, USA - Germany or USA - Mexico from 2002. The games don't look wildly different from anything in the 2014 World Cup.

You're actually right. Jurgen wastes so many tuneup games doing dumb shite like trying out Bedoya at center mid and putting defensive mids at left mid, etc. When he should be working on a legit plan B. That's what is so frustrating to me, under him we've played some great soccer but his ego and dumbass experiments drive me insane.

We have Alfredo Morales for that.
