This thread is supremely reactionary. Strikers like Jozy develop much later in their careers. Jozy wasn't a prolific scorer until he went to the Netherlands, where he had good service. He's still developing. Stevan Fletcher has only 3 goals, and he's a seasoned PL player. The chance creation is just not happening, though Sunderland have the potential to create chances with Larsson and Giaccherini.

He needs about two more years of top level play to come good.

He's scored 58 goals in 172 club matches. That is not a good record. He has pretty much the same rate in the US kit.

He's twenty-fricking-four years old. Still not in his prime and it is clear that he took a step up in quality in the past year and a half.

That cannot be argued.

Alfred Finbogasson, a 24 year old striker at Heerenveen, has 48 in 41.

What does that comparison have to do with anything?

Clint Dempsey was the 4th leading scorer in the EPL 2 years ago.

You are not making any sense.

Whether the defensive quality in the league is good or not (and it's not), what Jozy did last year was a rarity and should be taken as a positive.

But it doesn't seem to be a rarity. It's still positive for Jozy, but maybe not the game-changer we were all hoping for.

Not many 30 goal seasons at AZ before that.

Aron Bacon is on pace to do it.

Has nothing to do with what Jozy did last year.

That is a terrible fallacy of an arguement.

He needs to settle at Sunderland first. He has a good skill set, and is extremely strong. He's good with his back toward goal, but he needs to develop poaching instincts, as his movement within the box can improve. He's going to be a player who begins to hit his stride at 26 or so, but he needs to be playing at the top level for as long as he can.

At this point he's a poor man's Olivier Giroud, a target striker who links play but is hit or miss inside the box. Jozy doesn't get near the chances that Giroud does, so it's tough to tell if he's as a profligate finisher as Giroud.
