frick, we better not call in our best players. I don't want another '09 Gooch v. Costa Rica situation on our hands.

We also may need to throw a game in Panama to frick Mexico up.

If you haven't noticed by now, Klinsmann's media savviness amounts to many grandiose claims, often without any merit.

Example?

Everything he has said so far has been true.

More attacking style: check

Donovan has to earn hi way back: check

Create more in-house competition & depth: check

What do you expect him to say? "Sorry TV partners, stadium partners, and ticket buying fans, we aren't going to try to win the last two qualifiers. TD Soccer Board thinks I should cap tie any and every young player that has even the smallest of connections to the US."

He hedged and said best players available in the interview. Plus it's a good idea to keep guys integrated in the team. Plenty of kinks to work out in every level of the team. The back four is still a grease fire, Bradley/Jones still need time together, and I would love to see Donovan/Dempsey/Jozy play extensively together before the run up to Brazil.

I agree with Broski on this one.

Go for 6 points, but Sigi is going to be mighty pissed if we take Deuce, EJ, and Evans during the last few matches of the season. Same goes for LA, SKC, etc.

I think the key word is "best players AVAILABLE" so I wouldn't count on Donovan and Dempsey and other MLSers showing if its during he playoff race. Which would present great opportunities for Bacon and JAB to get meaningful minutes.

Yeah I would think this would be a mostly Euro squad. Maybe you go ahead and call up Zusi and Beasler in KC since it's hometown guys.

I doubt he actually calls in something resembling a first team, but we do have an outside shot at a top 8 fifa ranking if certain things break our way in europe

As much as I want Mexico to frick up, I don't think I could feel good about watching our national team throw a game. I'd be fine if we sent a C team or a bunch of young guys to get some experience playing in road qualifiers, but I still couldn't pull against the US.

To be honest, it probably won't matter if Mexico takes care of business against Panama at home in the next game. Let's not forget Costa Rica won't have anything to play for in the final qualifier.

The goal should be to win our qualifying group. that may be possible after the next game if we win and CR loses in Honduras. If that transpires, cap tie everyone ages 7 and up against Panama, but if it doesn't, we should go for the group win for ranking/seeding purposes next summer.
