He was also playing on a hurt foot...which he has surgery on immediately after the WC. Bradley hurt is still the best the United States has to offer, that is a testament to his talents.

I do feel like lots of posters on here are a bit delusional on how well Bradley performs in high pressure games. He hasn't really shown us that he can be an X factor in the past two world cups. Sure, he was playing a new position in 2014 but a good player can adapt. If I remember correctly, his 2010 World Cup performance was marginally better.

Do I think he should be captain? Yes, because he's still a leader on the team and one of the most experienced. But let's be honest, Dempsey would have been captain had he not had been suspended.

Bradley has what it takes to be good, as can be seen in the last two friendlies. He'll probably do fine at the gold cup, but he still has a lot to prove with his World Cup play.

Did you look at the distance covered stats the last WC? Do you know how fricking hard it is to switch to that position from his normal one? And he actually played quite well.

If anyone thinks Bradley isn't our best player they are delusional, he has been our best player since late 2011-2012.

And my first post was sarcasm that was a bullshite red card he got against Spain

It was so frustrating trying to fight the nepotism arguments about seven years ago when Bradley was breaking into the national team. It was dumb then but now it's just laughable.

I wasn't around then, but I can imagine. He was always one of our better players, he was phenomenal in 2010 WC with dolo and Landon.

Why do you think distance has any merit on how well a person played? You say you think Bradley played quite well during the WC, however I thought he played "quite well" during the last two games, and significantly better than the WC. Now, his injury probably played a big role in his WC performance, but that doesn't mean he gets some handicap when rating his performance. You could say he played quite well for someone having an injury, but still played mediocre at best without considering that.

The distance covered matters bc while nominally a number 10 after Altidores injury, he ran and covered distances like the box to box guy he was originally supposed to be. Every team we played in that tournament would've destroyed us in the midfield if he hadn't come back and helped like he did.

Not to mention even though he did struggle with wayward passing and not finishing, almost every decent bit of possession we had started with him and he was involved in a lot of good chances and directly involved in two of our 5 goals.

Based on the opposition in 2014, he and everyone on the team save one player did the job that was required of them to make it to the quarterfinals. Chris Wondolowski is the only person whose WC performance should be criticized IMO

Had he not turned the ball over at the end of the Portugal game we wouldn't be having this discussion. It was such an ill timed giveaway that's all we remember about his performance.

That assist in the Belgium game tho

Ok, so you are saying he ran a lot and got back on defense...I still don't understand how distance traveled = good performance. It's an indication of how hard somebody worked, but has no bearing on actual performance. Hypothetically, he could have run 20 miles and kicked the ball into our own goal 5 times. The fact that he ran 20 miles means nothing if he did a lot of stupid things throughout those 20 miles.

If every possession started with him and he struggled with wayward passing, what does that tell us?

Do you think that all that running was for nothing? Think about all the ground that he covered on both sides of the ball, cutting off passing lanes, pressing defenders, and generally being a presence on every square foot of that field. If you can't figure out why running long distances is important for a soccer game, and I can't really help you.

I never said it wasn't important. I said that by itself, distance traveled doesn't tell you everything. I've said that I felt that his touch was off during the world cup(in older threads) - trapping and passing. Sure he had his moments, but people keep harping on distance traveled, like that matters more than what he actually did while he was running around.
