He's 22, English, homegrown, 28 of those goals were in the last season and a half.
He's also a 6'3" center forward and very good in the air which is exactly what Pool needs to pair with Suarez.

He's only 22, he's English, he's not in the last year of his contract, he's 6'3 and can win everything in the air, its the last day of the transfer window, all other big CF options are already at big teams, he's English, and he's English.

This whole homegrown thing doesn't excuse the fact they way overpaid. They didn't need an Englishman. Surely there was someone, anyone out there of comparable talent they could have gotten for considerably cheaper. As a GM/pres of operations you should always have backup plans ready. For a guy like Comolli who prides himself as being some sort of uber-talent evaluator/hidden gem finder, I just think this purchase is extremely humorous.

Though I shouldn't really be surprised. This is the same method the Red Sox have used. Evaluate the right talent and pay whatever it takes to get them.

Andy Carroll would definitely make losing Nando more manageable. But still, 35M is way too much cash.
