Bacon playing behind Altidore, obviously.

I gotcha. I don't see it happening but i reckon it's possible.

That could actually be an interesting line up. Put Dempsey on the left where he likes to cut inside behind Jozy, and let Bacon run off Jozy's left side and occasionally switch with Dempsey. Bunch of movement that could confuse the defense.

Unless JK has some plan to play Landon as a striker, it seems like the spot he is fighting for is LW with Dempsey in the middle and Zusi on the right.

Would be very interesting to see him paired with Jozy in a 4-4-2, though. Would turn into 4-5-1, but you would have a lot of attacking talent on the field. I just think that's more likely to happen when we are down in the second half.

Who do y'all have starting at LW in 4-2-3-1?

That's the problem. Dempsey doesn't put in the defensive work. Then again, that's not his strength. I'm still convinced his best position in the attack, though, is at LW. That's the position from which he scored the majority of his goals for Fulham, especially in that season where he just went off.

While I agree with you, that's basically 2010

And who is he fighting with for that spot? A large group of nobodys, right?

No, but JK's trying to provoke some passion out of Cakes. JK wants him to show a desire to earn his spot and his place in the 11. Plus, as someone said earlier, he wants to prove that no one's spot is guaranteed.

Compared to him, yes.
When you look at it, it's hard to see who else might start there if FJ plays left back.
I can't think of anyone who has staked a claim to that spot, but I guess AJ and Green hope to play there.

For me, the only question is with central defense and right back. I guess there is a very slight chance Beckerman starts over Jones, but I'd say less than 10 percent. Other than that, it's hard to see who could possibly play above Jones and Bradley, besides Zusi, Donovan, and Dempsey.

Bedoya may be the most legit option, and Bedoya is not a legit option.

Bedoya is a legit option. He's been playing really well in France. Don't let that TNdouche persuade you into thinking he's some scrub just because he once played for Rangers.

This is Geoff Cameron's take on things, btw.
quote:

“I think competition is great,” he said. “That’s how teams excel throughout the season. If you don’t have guys pushing each other for positions, then the team kind of goes stale a little bit. You see that in any team, in any league. If there’s no one pushing behind you, then maybe the player gets complacent and just kind of takes his foot off the pedal. But if you have three or four guys behind you challenging you every single day, every single week, I think every guy raises their game and their level.”

quote:

“You just have to go full bore all the time,” he said. “It challenges you mentally, especially when you’re tired. You’ve just got to keep going and grinding it out. That’s one thing that Jurgen has taught us is mental toughness. When things get rough, just keep working hard, and stay focused.”

Sounds good to me.

I had the red jersey with the sash for Donovan, but the letters peeled, so Nike refunded me $70. I bought it for $35 on Ebay (thanks to one of you guys linking the sale), so I took the money and bought a sick Centennial Donovan kit off Ebay for $60. I will also be pissed if Donovan does not play every minute.

That must have been me. I got the same one off ebay, and it also peeled, but I was living in France and there was no way I was going to waste my time/money sending it back.

Thanks for the deal. It was worth the $35 still. I sent it directly back to Nike without a receipt. They refunded me $70 cause they thought their product did not hold up.

I made this exchange in August I think, and I owned the Donovan jersey for well over a year. Basically, still can't hurt to try.

I would imagine that, for most people, it's not really about Juergen's hypocrisy. He has tried to be some hardass, master motivator for players who have never really had a problem showing up to a tournament, playing their hearts out, and achieving more than they probably should have.

Except in 2006. And 1998.
