If we'd gotten Klinsmann in 2007

It's known that JK was sought after following the 2006 World Cup. I can't recall too much from back then but apparently Klinsmann was reportedly interested but had too many demands. He wanted to revamp American the system, much like he'd done in Germany in 2004. He also wanted Nick Saban levels of control, something the USSF knew they wouldn't have to deal with with a Bruce Arena assistant like Bob Bradley.
With JK finally on board in 2011, the USA has begun to have a knack for keeping anyone with an American connection in red, white and blue as well as playing a faster brand of soccer. It's almost painful to speculate what South Africa in 2010 would have been like had the USA elected to go all in with Jurgy in 2007. The Americans faced a relatively easy (as the Brits called it) group and a shockingly feasible knockout path.
While all you can do is speculate, it is easier to think about what could have been when it's going pretty well in reality as well. With everything coming up Jozy and new talent being recruited seemingly every friendly... it's great to be a US Soccer fan, just a shame this ride couldn't have started four years earlier.

I don't think it's that big of a deal really, I think he has learned a lot since 2007. Bob did well enough, it's just a different time in US soccer right now than 2007.

we have more talent and a deeper pool than we did last cycle. That shouldn't be understated. Klinsi has had a lot to do with our current fortunes but I believe we were on the up regardless.

Unless you think his recruiting would have landed subotic and rossi, we are better off the way things played

i think it's almost assured that klinsy wouldn't have let the subotic frickup occur, if he had total control of US Soccer

He probably would have tried to get Ibisevic too, obviously a longer time ago, but I don't know how different we'd be.

I don´t see how Klinsman would have kept Rossi (Rossi saw what looked to be a great opportunity at the time, and acted accordingly), and these Bosnians, Montenegrinos, Croats and Serbs are all hit and miss (they all have serious footballing history as a whole, and are equally proud, post disintegration), with respect to being swayed to play for the stars and bars.

What's the story on why Jermaine Jones waited so long to switch? He would have made a big difference in South Africa.

I don't remember exactly, but there was the rule change. Then, it was either administrative bullshite or an injury that kept him out (broken leg, IIRC)

Subotic bounced around as a refugee or some shite for a while. Spent some time in Germany. Ended up in the US and plays for our YNTs. Goes back to Germany to play professionally.
Subotic was playing regularly in Germany. Thomas Rongen (U20 coach) doesn't call him up for, I believe, the U20 World Cup and gives some bullshite excuse.
However, Subotic received a full national team call up a few months later (which should illustrate the stupidity of not calling him up for the U20s) And turned it down. So, no one really knows how important the "snub" was.
He chose Serbia.

Who knows how true it is, but I've heard that Subotic was always going to play for Serbia and the Rongen thing was blown out of proportion. It doesn't matter bc he doesn't play for us and he doesn't ever talk about it. I would be interested to hear the story , he's a frick arse though so I'm actually happier hating him than loving him.

Yeah, the more that comes about it, the less I know, and the more ambivalent I am towards the entire issue.
