I believe that we will win

I love this chant, but it has been getting mocked this go round.
I am an every 4 years kind of fan, so I am here to find the opinions of the true diehards. Is it just some online blowhards (like Kelce) trying to mess this up, or do actual fans not like it?

I think most fans that truly consume a lot of soccer from around the world simply don’t like our fans trying to embrace a TEMU version of European sports culture.
We don’t particularly chant in any of our other fandoms so why shoehorn it in here? Just my opinion.

"IT'S GREAT! TO BE! A FLORIDA GATOR!"
"ROLL TIDE!"
HOTTY TODDY, GOSH ALMIGHTY, WHO THE HELL ARE WE? FLIM FLAM, BIM BAM, OLE MISS BY DAMN!
TIGERBAIT! TIGERBAIT! TIGERBAIT!
WHO DAT? WHO DAT? WHO DAT SAID THEY GON BEAT THEM SAINTS?!
WOOOOO PIG SOOOOOOIIIIIEEEEE!
And then Georgia fans just bark a whole lot.
We chant all the time. Hell, at LSU we even do in game chants and songs like they do at soccer matches around the world.
STTDB is a particular one we are known for.

Yeah but I think those have developed organically. Also I think college sports is pretty clearly the exception to the rule over here. Also the chants you mentioned are a tiny portion of the overall cheering and noise that occurs.
I think it’s more that groups like the outlaws try to emulate other countries and it falls flat and try hard.

Yeah the American Outlaws are a cringe nerd outfit that hurts American soccer culture. They try way too hard. Either a legitimate American soccer culture will materialize organically one day or it won’t, but forcing it AO style makes it harder to happen in a positive way.

It's just not a good chant at the end of the day. It sucks.

THIS is the problem. If I enjoy soccer, it's because I enjoy soccer, it's not because I'm trying to be more like Europeans. European culture is cool and I enjoy being exposed to it, but at the end of the day it isn't my culture and I don't want it to be. There is a large subset of American soccer fans that are basically the otaku of sports fandom in this country and it's very weird and off-putting

Makes perfect sense
Thanks ??

I saw on Twitter and it’s gaining traction:
We need to stop pretending we are something we aren’t with these chants. Bring in a college band and play neck
“Suck that Yankee dick, bitch” would hit so damn hard. That’s who we are. The euros would actually concede well played if we did that
And at the beginning of the game play enter sandman followed by a bald eagle flying
Lean into shite America is actually known for. Don’t do euro shite . The rest of the world is visiting in falling in love with American culture. Stick with it

And it would be just one of 30 they would hit that day, others equally as novel
STTDB is amusing but if that’s the best we have it underlies the gulf in passion, creativity, coordination, and general shithousery

Say what you will about STTDB, but it’s a prime example of a chat that was organically developed by the student fans. The AO chats feel like they were developed in a tech board room.

fricking hit the crowd with the FSU war chant too
We have legit cool shite that we do at games here. The problem is we try to be something we are not for soccer

I like the “USA ain’t nothing to frick with” chant. STYDB would be great too. Can we send the southern band to play Neck for this one since we aren’t allowed to anymore?

Sports wise, European fandom culture is pretty similar to SEC fandom culture.
Raucous crowds, organised cheers and songs, and taunts designed for specific opponents.
Songwise, Alabama has "Dixieland Delight" while LSU has "Hey Baby", Calling Baton Rouge", and "Neck" that our fans join together to sing. Just like European fans do with their fellow fans.
The pagentry, intensity, and comarderie is the same for both sports.
The problem is that the AO didn't grow up in a similar culture, so they don't understand how fandom and traditions work. You can't just decide to use a cheer. You have to create a cheer that represents who you are and what you represent. It can't be stolen or copied from someone else.
I believe that we will win is not representative of America nor does it portray the image that we want the world to view of us.
There's a few reasons it doesn't work, but the main reason is because of one word: Believe.
We're America. We don't "believe" we will win....we "know" we will win. The chant gives off an aura of uncertainty. It creates an image of fear and doubt. Americans don't doubt we can do something, we know we can do it. We will find a way.

I’m sorry but there really isn’t a comparison here. If a random Championship footballer gets caught having an affair in the papers, thousands at his next away match will be reminding him in full throated new tune

The gulf in passion, creativity, coordination, and shithousery is as wide as the Atlantic
Awwwww....they tease a player through song?
That's outright insanity, that is. Serenading a professional player for getting laid.
Bama fans commit felonies over Tide Games. Win or Lose.

It's not just the chant. It's the entire collaboration that goes with it. That's why it doesn't really work when they shoehorn it into other songs.
It's the entire stadium doing the arm motion, bouncing up and down, singing the song. It truly is a spectacle when it's done properly.
Not to mention the other chants LSU fans used to say in unison that I grew up hearing in the stadium that have been phased out by ESPN and administrators for being "vulgar".
