Anything to take away from this article?

A lack of chemistry between the squad's two stars, Dempsey and Landon Donovan, a lack of clarity surrounding the best position to insert the bald-headed menace of Michael Bradley, and an unsettled defensive line mean the team continues to be a work in progress.

They're two different personalities, completely. Does he have any evidence, of this, beside the fact that he believes it?
U.S. to UEFA? CONCACAF is hard enough, what with the bias in officiating, it's not as easy of a confederation as this guy pretends, but it's not UEFA or CONMEBOL, either.

Actually it's fairly accepted that they don't talk to each other much at all, if any off the pitch.
Dempsey said it himself during the Scotland game.

This was written by one of the guys from Men in Blazers. I don't know how much is meant to be serious. Sounds mostly like opinion, not fact.

Euro groups are far more difficult than UEFA World Cup qualifying groups. Some UEFA qualifying groups are complete shite compared to the final CONCACAF hexagonal. I would much rather have to play Lithuania and Malta away than El Salvador and Honduras in their banana pit stadiums.

They do lack on-field chemistry because they have such different playing styles. In all of the games I have seen them play together, I can only remember one when they both scored (2009 Confed Cup Final).
Off the field, I haven't heard anything. Neither of them are known as divas, so I would have my doubts even if a story did come out.

I'm talking about the World Cup Qualifying groups in UEFA. I do realize that FIFA runs the World Cup.

I doubt there is any animosity there. Sure, they have different personalities but it always seems like one is the first to celebrate with the other when either scores a goal.

Yes, but the UEFA groups of six get 1.5 entries and the CONCACAF group of six gets 3.5 entries.

Didn't notice the edit.....I know you know that, thought you may have mistyped it. Don't be so GD prissy.

If they do dislike each other I've never seen any major sign of it. Seemed friendly after the Fulham-Everton game and they also had the little love fest after Dempsey's goal against Panama in the Gold Cup.
As for on the field, we haven't played well the last two games but against Canada the best chance came from a give and go between them. Dempsey set up Donovan's penalty and there didn't seem to be any issues between the two after Dempsey took it.
Its just a nothing story to me. Even if they don't get along too well I don't think its that big of a deal. I listen to the Men in Blazers podcast sometimes and they were talking about that and how Teddy Shearingham and Andy Cole hated each other so much they wouldn't even speak to each other
Its certainly not on that level.

I understand that, but the US typically finishes first or second in our qualifying group.
Greece
Slovakia
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Lithuania
Latvia
Liechtenstein
Netherlands
Turkey
Hungary
Romania
Estonia
Andorra
The first is a rather poor qualifying group and the second one is a fairly average group. Say we replace Turkey and Greece in their respective groups. We would probably finish second to the Netherlands, and first in the other group.

I am not surprised at all by them not being buddies off the field. It would be like Tom Brady being best buds with Tim Tebow.

They are friendly enough with each other. If Deuce can call Landon Fivehead on twitter then I think they have at least a cordial relationship.

I completely agree about the high number of bad teams at the bottom of European groups. The thing though (aside from these being the two worst groups which we would be extremely lucky to draw once every 12 years) is that you have to finish first (with a side like Netherlands in your group) or you eventually have beat out sides like Russia, Belgium etc to qualify.
I'm not disagreeing with you point about the initial group stages but clarifying that overall it's still much, much harder to qualify in Europe. Otherwise you'd see sides like Russia etc in every world cup. I think USA would do well to qualify once every 3 cycles in Europe.

Here's some other European Qualifying Groups:
Norway
Slovenia
Switzerland
Albania
Cyprus
Iceland
England
Montenegro
Ukraine
Poland
Moldova
San Marino
The only groups in which I could see us fail to reach the playoffs are A, B, C. Bearing in mind, we would probably replace a country with a relatively equal FIFA ranking.

I'd say that should be the minimum. I wouldn't expect to make it every time, but I do think we can expect to make it more often than not.

His names for everyone on the team is pretty funny.
I think his best friend on the USMNT is probably Jose Torres. They are also roomies.
The closest people with one another are probably Boca and Dolo. They are also roomies.
