Help settle offside argument

My daughter in her first high school game of the year scored, but then was ruled offside.
Free kick for 10yards above corner of 18yd box. Ball was sent to near post and hit goalie right in the hands. My daughter was 10 yards away at the back post when ball was played and goalie made a meal of it...my daughter pounced on loose ball and scored.
I got into a minor disagreement with a fellow parent (who claimed that he was a ref and new the rules). I was trying to tell him that my daughter (even if she was offsides) was no where near impeding the goalie when said goalie dropped ball.
Offside or no?

If she was in an offside position when the ball was kicked and the goalie never had possession (that’s not how the law is worded, but I think it makes sense) then she was offsides.

Was the call that she was in an offside position impeding the GKs view or ability to play the ball? Or was she from a starting offside position when the ball was kicked? If it’s the first one then that’s a judgment call by the ref and it gets a little hairy.

A save by a keeper is different than a deliberate play of the ball by an opposing player which would then negate her offside. A save by a keeper is not the same as a deliberate play no matter how bad the keeper screwed it up

Currently certified HS and USSF referee here.
If your daughter was in an offside position when the free kick was taken, then she is offside as a deliberate save by a goalkeeper does not reset the offside. The question I would have is how much of a “meal” the GK made of it. I would have to see the play to give you a more complete answer as to whether it was a save or a deliberate play on the ball and then the GK loses it. She would be onside in the latter scenario.

Hard to say if she was in fact the offsides party seeing as it was a free kick in the box and there were many players from both sides in the box. Since she was the one that eventually scored, I would assume that she was in fact the offsides player.
Regarding the goalie, she tried to catch a pretty routine cross and it just went thru her hands and was really slow to react to pick it back up. My more daughter then scored the poachers goal.

This is what I was thinking but haven’t reffed in ages. Rules are different or worded differently now.
She was most likely offside but could see an argument if the keeper had possession or something and just threw it on the ground so it’s a loose ball situation.
I’ve seen professionals do this.
Oh if she just didn’t catch it and your daughter was offsides when it was kicked then she’s offsides.
But I’m also assuming you don’t know if she was so then you just have to trust the AR.

Based on your description of the GK’s actions, offside is the correct decision.
