Formal announcement expected in the near future. Stay tuned to official league channels for more information.
A few rumors flying around that Jimmy Haslam (Browns' owner) is looking to buy the team and keep it in Columbus. Great news for a great fanbase, and hopefully Austin is able to still get a team.

Sounds like it. At least in one form or another.

Mixed feelings. Hate Haslam. Like Crew.

austin is still getting a team it looks like this has nothing to do with Austin FC

Austin should have supported the teams it had before

im confused on the whole thing. does this mean austin is getting a team or not?
seems like a lot of trouble and legal stuff to get a stadium and do all the work to set up austin fc to just sell now.
columbus is a piece of shite. they would have been better off here

Well your post clearly shows you are confused
Austin never put in a package to get team, no grass roots fan support, no stadium planned and not even fricking ownership group

I expected news to come on this very soon. Since July, I’ve thought this was the likely outcome. I’m surprised the Browns and the Haslam family are involved. I had not heard anything about that, and I’ve paid close attention to all Crew news over the past few months. The more money in this new group, the better. Just hope they’re managed better than the Browns.
If MLS is issuing an official statement like this, we know it’s legit. The Crew are saved. They wouldn’t make a public statement like this otherwise. I’m so happy for the Crew players, staff, and their fans, who have gone through hell for the past year expecting their team to move.
Hopefully the new ownership will build that beautiful downtown stadium in the Arena District and take the team to new heights. I’m still not happy about Austin basically cutting the expansion line without submitting a bid, due to Precourt’s actions. But the alternative is either a shitload of lawsuits by Precourt or no more Crew. I’ll take this any day.
Don Garber needs to really start cracking the whip on the shitty ownership groups in Houston and Chicago. They’re really holding the entire league back by being such clownshows in two Top 5 markets. We’ve turned around Kansas City and DC. Let’s turn the other stragglers around, too.

Looks like we’ll still get a team by 2021.

Which is dumb
This league is getting absurdly to big

Sounds like crew owner and mls would on been in litigation hell if they allowed the move, so Garber and company did the best thing, allow crew 2 stay, Austin gets a team.

My understanding is that Precourt gets his team in Austin in 2021 and it will essentially be an expansion team.
Meanwhile Haslam “purchases an equity stake in MLS” aka pays the 250 million expansion fee (or a reduced amount) and the Crew keep everything including the players and their history.
The only losers in all this are the potential expansion groups in Detroit, Phoenix, Sacramento, and possibly St. Louis.
